- Q: Is it possible to melt down plastic bags or bottles to make transparent sheets for a house's roof?
- can and it very easy. melted the plastic on the temperature 105°C to 138°C (depending on the type of plastic used) then moulded by the colded mold (so that the plastic is not attached to the mould)
- Q: So I went to staples and had them laminate like 8 papers I HAVE to have laminated by tomorrow.... And I picked them up, came home, and they were literally my papers stuck between 2 plastic sheets. I can peel it easily and it is not sticking at all. Am I supposed to do something or did they mess up and forget something???? Please help!!!!
- It sounds like they messed up. My guess is that the machine was not hot enough to allow the laminate sheeting to bond. Yes, you should call them and go back. Laminating IS two plastic sheets with a paper between. However, when the machine is very hot, the plastic softens and bonds. Did you trim the papers? You should always leave a narrow edge of plastic around the edges, perhaps a quarter inch. If you trim it exactly against the paper, there is nothing on the edge to seal and bond. If they did the trimming, then check the edging. If there is a quarter edge beyond the paper and it is separating, then take it back. That could be a machine not hot enough. Take your receipt.
- Q: I got the thick 4mil, does it work better with a space between the window and film? My neighbor puts the film right on the window, does that help? I think a still-air space would work better. How much does it really help, 5%?
- yes the air gap will help because air is an excellent insulator, however, make the gap very small, because if you make it too large then you can get lots of convection(where the air can circulate inside the gap) which will significantly lessen the insulation qualities. This same idea is used in regular fiberglass insulation, the air gaps are created by very small holes in the insulation, and these small holes also help to keep the convection down.
- Q: is the smell of new sheets/comforters harmful? Do I have to wash before use or is it ok right out of plastic?
- It is best to wash them, not because of the smell but because of the chemicals (often sprays are used post-production to avoid infestation), as well as those used to grow the cotton or make the other fibers. *** NOTE FOR SENSITIVE PEOPLE: You can get rid of some finishes if you soak the item 2 to 6 hr. in machine full of water w. a cup of white vinegar, rinse and then wash in machine w. half cup baking soda (no soap). *** If you buy organic, you avoid the entire issue. Aso, keep the water cool or warm, not hot, and be sure item is colorfast. If you are not sure, be safe and just wash as directed on the packaging.

I'm guessing your sheets had been in a warm environment for a couple of years, such as a warehouse in a hot climate, before you received them.
