1.Structure of Electrolytic Tinplate Coil for Can Making Description

Electrolytic Tin Plate Coils and Sheets for Foods Metal Packaging,  is one thin steel sheet with a coating of tin applied by electrolytic deposition. Tinplate made by this process is essentially a sandwich in which the central core is strip steel. This core is cleaned in a pickling solution and then fed through tanks containing electrolyte, where tin is deposited on both sides. As the strip passes between high-frequency electric induction coils, it is heated so that the tin coating melts and flows to form a lustrous coat.

2.Main Features of the Electrolytic Tinplate Coil for Can Making

Appearance – Electrolytic Tin Plate is characterized by its beautiful metallic luster. Products with various kinds of surface roughness are produced by selecting the surface finish of the substrate steel sheet.

Paintability and printability – Electrolytic Tin Plates have excellent paintability and printability. Printing is beautifully finished using various lacquers and inks.

Formability and strength – Electrolytic Tin Plates have got very good formability and strength. By selecting a proper temper grade, appropriate formability is obtained for different applications as well as the required strength after forming.

Corrosion resistance – Tinplate has got good corrosion resistance. By selecting a proper coating weight, appropriate corrosion resistance is obtained against container contents. Coated items should meet 24 hour 5 % salt spray requirement.

Solderability and weldability – Electrolytic Tin Plates can be joined both by soldering or welding. These properties of tinplate are used for making various types of cans.

Hygienic – Tin coating provides good and non toxic barrier properties to protect food products from impurities, bacteria, moisture, light and odours.

Safe – Tinplate being low weight and high strength makes food cans easy to ship and transport.

Eco friendly – Tinplate offers 100 % recyclability.

Tin is not good for low temperature applications since it changes structure and loses adhesion when exposed to temperatures below – 40 deg C.

Q: What are the advantages of using tinplate for paint cans?
There are several advantages of using tinplate for paint cans. Firstly, tinplate is a highly durable material that provides excellent protection against corrosion and external elements, ensuring the longevity of the paint stored inside. Additionally, tinplate has a high resistance to impact, making it less likely to dent or get damaged during transportation or storage. Furthermore, tinplate has superior barrier properties, preventing the paint from interacting with oxygen or moisture, which could potentially affect its quality. Lastly, tinplate is a sustainable and recyclable material, making it an environmentally friendly choice for paint can packaging.
Q: Can tinplate be used for storage containers?
Yes, tinplate can be used for storage containers. It is a common material choice due to its durability, corrosion resistance, and ability to keep food and other items protected. Tinplate containers are commonly used for packaging and storing various products, including food, beverages, chemicals, and more.
Q: How is tinplate used in the cosmetics industry?
Tinplate is commonly used in the cosmetics industry for packaging purposes. It is often utilized to make containers such as cans and tubes that store various cosmetic products like creams, lotions, and powders. Tinplate provides durability, protection, and a sleek appearance to these cosmetic packaging materials, ensuring the safety and preservation of the products.
Q: How does tinplate compare to plastic-coated steel in terms of properties and applications?
Tinplate and plastic-coated steel have different properties and applications. Tinplate is a thin, lightweight steel sheet coated with a layer of tin, which provides excellent corrosion resistance, solderability, and aesthetic appeal. It is commonly used in food and beverage packaging, as well as in the manufacturing of aerosol containers, electronic components, and various consumer products. On the other hand, plastic-coated steel is steel that is coated with a layer of plastic, typically through a process called extrusion. This coating enhances the steel's durability, impact resistance, and chemical resistance, making it suitable for applications that require protection against harsh environments or harsh handling. Plastic-coated steel is often used in construction, automotive, and electrical industries, where strength and corrosion resistance are crucial. In summary, tinplate is preferred for applications that require corrosion resistance, solderability, and a visually appealing finish, such as food packaging. Plastic-coated steel, on the other hand, is more suitable for applications that demand enhanced durability, impact resistance, and chemical resistance, like in construction or automotive industries.
Q: How does the thickness of tinplate affect its strength?
The thickness of tinplate directly affects its strength. Generally, thicker tinplate tends to be stronger and more resistant to deformation or damage compared to thinner tinplate. This is because the increased thickness provides a greater amount of material, resulting in improved structural integrity and resistance to external forces.
Q: How is tinplate used in the packaging industry?
Tinplate is commonly used in the packaging industry as it provides a protective and durable coating for various products. It is often used to create cans and containers for food, beverages, and other consumer goods. Tinplate ensures the preservation of the contents, prevents contamination, and extends shelf life. Additionally, its versatility allows for easy printing and labeling, making it an ideal choice for branding and marketing purposes.
Q: Can tinplate be used for industrial or automotive applications?
Yes, tinplate can be used for industrial or automotive applications. Tinplate is a type of steel coated with a thin layer of tin, which provides excellent corrosion resistance and durability. This makes it suitable for various industrial and automotive purposes, such as manufacturing cans, containers, packaging, electrical components, and automotive parts. Its versatility and protective properties make tinplate a preferred choice in these industries.
Q: How does tinplate maintain its shape during the manufacturing process?
Tinplate maintains its shape during the manufacturing process due to its inherent strength and rigidity, which is achieved through a combination of factors. Firstly, the steel substrate used in tinplate is typically made from low-carbon steel, which provides a sturdy foundation. Additionally, the tin coating on the steel provides an added layer of protection and stability. The tin layer acts as a barrier against corrosion and helps to prevent deformation or warping of the tinplate. Moreover, the manufacturing process involves carefully controlling the temperature and pressure, ensuring that the tinplate retains its shape and structural integrity.
Q: Can tinplate be used for coffee or tea packaging?
Yes, tinplate can be used for coffee or tea packaging. Tinplate is a durable and food-safe material that provides excellent protection against moisture, light, and oxygen, making it an ideal choice for preserving the quality and freshness of coffee or tea. Additionally, tinplate can be easily shaped and printed on, allowing for attractive and customized packaging designs.
Q: Can tinplate be easily opened and resealed?
No, tinplate cannot be easily opened and resealed as it typically requires specialized tools or equipment to open and seal it properly.
