Q: if you move a solar panel or there was a vibration that caused the panel to move, would that affect it?
probably not much. If you had it at an optimal angle to the sun and it vibrated out of that position then you could be loosing some efficiency.
Q: in a solar panel, i know that the electrons are knocked loose and used as energy, what happens to the protons?
silicon based photovoltaic cells used some boron as dopant. i dont understand if that helps supress proton pastime, the way they be conscious boron on supressing run away nuclear reaction.... im clueless as you
Q: I am trying to built a circuit that will power two USB ports (both 5V and 0.5 amps) from the output of a solar panel that produces 20V at 0.2 amps. I have a voltage regulator that runs at 5v and 0.5 amps but I can't figure out the best way to boost the current up to 0.5 amps before I incorporate the voltage regulators.
If you want to power both USB ports at the same times, It might not be possibble. Your solar panel only supplies 2.24 Watts (20V * 0.2A) of power and you need to deliver 2.5 Watts (5V * 0.5A) to the ports. Subtracting any losses from your regulator(s), you will be WAY over your power budget. You will need more of a solar panel or less of a load.
Q: Are there any noise concerns with solar panels?
No, there are no noise concerns with solar panels. Solar panels produce electricity by converting sunlight into energy and do not generate any noise during their operation.
Q: I've run out of things to keep me entertained recently and as part of a larger project, I was curious if its possible to 'McGuyver' up a solar panel out of common materials?
Building your own panels can be an interesting experiment, but if you are looking for solar panels to provide significant, consistent output, you should buy factory made ones. I get lots of calls from people who built their own panels and get a fraction of the advertised output from them. Plus, factory built panels will last 40 - 50 years, with a 25 year warranty, how sure are you that you can build something that can withstand the outdoors for that long? The price of panels has dropped a lot this year, plus with rebates and tax credits, it's getting more affordable.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on parking lots or garages?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on parking lots or garages. In fact, these areas are often ideal for solar panel installations due to the large open spaces and unobstructed sunlight exposure. Installing solar panels on parking lots or garages can help generate clean and renewable energy, reduce electricity costs, and provide shade for parked vehicles.
Q: By best I mean safest places. If I were to install them on my roof am I risking due to damage from weathering? Such as rain or snow. I don't get very high winds around here, nor any natural disasters such as hurricanes or tornadoes. Does anyone have solar panels that have been durable for a long time? Is it worth the investment?
Probably not worth it. Sure, it is a great idea, but it will take decades to get your money back in energy savings. Today's panels are fine for a roof. However, I'd worry a little about the interface (where leaks could occur) especially in a retrofit. They, of course, will need to face south.
Q: I've been figuring ways to keep water thawed out this winter, and this bucket seems to be the easiest thing. What kind of set up (solar panel) would I need to feed this 260 watt heated bucket?
Unfortunately solar panels are low output, generally only 2 volt and very low amperage,so you would need to build a multi panel array with a DC-AC converter all together costing several hundred dollars which would only work during sunlight.Just roughly figuring, about $800. Plan2-Solar charger, battery bank, and DC-AC inverter so it would work 24hrs a day, also several hundred $$. Solar power does just not seem feasible(to me)in this application.By far the cheapest set up here would be an extension cord fromhouse to the bucket.260 watts per hr is a fairly lightweight draw, even not figuring the thermostat's cycling it on and off as needed.Electricity is sold in kilowatt hours(000W/hr).This bucket would use(not allowing for thermostats control lowering it)appx 6000watts or 6KW per day.Depending on your electrical cost per Kwh it would cost very little to run.(In my location appx 50cents a day) or appx the same amount as my computer(325watts total)) Note that that would be a maximum rate, and would actually be less due to thermostat cycling off and on as needed.
Q: Hello everybody, the area we are living has energy crises with no electricity available most of the time. What I am thinking is to buy a solar panel with other required accessories. Please note we have normally long sunny days most of the time during a year. Please advice installing solar energy system would supply energy 24/7? I have a television, a dvd player, a fan, 4 energy saver lights (2 watt each) and a laptop. Please also advice the specifications for the system to be installed and the points I need to ensure at the time of purchase. I think of buying a solid battery (not acidic battery)The forum is open for your kind suggestions. Thanks!
Unfortunately solar panels aren't very cheap, and to power as much as you would like, you'll need quite a few. Aside from that, they aren't the most dependable, and maintenance is pretty expensive. If there is a relatively continuous breeze in your area, you may want to look into residential wind turbines. They will provide electricity 24/7, and the small ones don't require very much maintenance. You won't need as many turbines as you would solar panels either because they provide a pretty decent amount of power. Hope this helps!!
Q: Can solar panels be installed on backpacks or camping gear?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on backpacks or camping gear. These portable solar panels are designed to be lightweight and flexible, making them suitable for outdoor activities. They can be used to charge small electronic devices like phones, tablets, or portable speakers while on the go, providing a convenient and sustainable power source.
