Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

Q: Using Curved arrows show how acetaldehyde can act as a lewis base with aluminum trichloride as the lewis acid?
A Lewis base is an electron pair donor, so the acetaldehyde will donate electrons to the aluminum trichloride, the Lewis acidBasically, what will happen is that a bond will form between the two moleculesYou use the curved arrow to show the electron flow (sorry, can't draw that on here)If you have trouble with how to draw it, try this website: academic.reed.edu/chemistry/roco/It seems to explain it decently wellBest of luck.

This is what we have when we can't decide! ZIPLOC Omelets (This works great! Good for when all your family is together and no one has to wait for their special omelet) Start a large pot of water on the stove with the burner tuned up to med/high or high - need water to boilHave guests write their name on a quart-size ziploc freezer bag with permanent markerPlease use the Ziploc brand since they will hold up to the boiling and the cheaper brands have a tendancy to bustCrack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them pinch yokes through bag with fingers to bust them if necessarySeason with salt pepper, cayenne, fresh basil or the seasonings you prefer (fresh basil is really good with eggs) Put out a variety of ingredients such as: shredded cheeses, ham, bacon, sausage, onion, green pepper, mushrooms, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etcMake sure any meat is already cooked prior to setting it outLet each guest add prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake itMake sure to get all the air out of the bag and zip it upDon't let them put to much added ingredients into the eggs - remember we are only using 2 eggs and will need them to set up when cookedPlace the sealed bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutesYou can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large potFor more, make another pot of boiling waterOpen the bags and the omelet will roll out easilyBe prepared for everyone to be amazed! Q: I have 6 table top fountainsAt my old house I ran them almost every day I have since moved and kept them pack for the last year because I have been SO busy I have not been able to decorateI notice that there are serious deposits from water in the bottom of themI really want to remove themI have looked online and found many people recommend vinegar or CLR for these types of things. My concern is there is rubber tubing that carries the water and there is also deposits in themI want something that I can run through the fountains to make sure all the deposits are out of all the areasI am afraid both CLR and vinegar will eat through the tubingI did read the instruction manuals for them all and found no help.Does anyone know what I should use?
you can run vinegar through without damaging the tubingCLR will react with aluminum (the pump?) but shouldn't harm the tubingDo not use Bleach products as bleach will dry the rubber causing eventual failure.

First of all, they are compatible with flash, you just need to install it because it is a risk to your computer safety ( but you need to install it on your Windows as well)Second of all, you shouldn't talk about not being able to do creative stuff on a Mac, everyone who designs or makes music professionally uses a MacIt's correct that the main reason their are no viruses for Mac because their market share is to little, but do you think we care why the risk is so low? no we just don't want any virusesOther than that, is it possible to make your Mac safer than your Windows will ever be! You are also talking about idiots changing things they shouldn'tIts true people usually dont understand what they are changing, and why they are doing itThey dont need to know, because they are just using the main functions of the computerOnce again, most people dont care why! You need to understand that i did get my fair share of windowsI have been an official product tester( from XP to 7) and yet, i'm using a Mac nowWhy? because i dont want to pay 60$ a year for anti-virus programming, and i dont want to reinstall my OS every 2/3 yearsI'm sick and tired of everything my Windows thinks it needs to know, while i have already uninstalled a programme I'm well aware of the fact that a lot of people buy a Mac because its an Apple product, but you can see in an instant they still dont understand it, but for me its an ideal computer
