- getting it filled with blown insulation would be the best as far as effiency goes but it also the most expensive and depending on how old your plaster walls are they will probobly crack and maybe even blow holes in itblue board would be the cheepest and the most simple way to insulate without renovationdont forget you will need atleast 2 1/4 inch screws to fasten your drywall to your wall studs behind the blueboard and plaster wallsI dont think it will hold up well if u just fasten it to the blueboard.

- Bleach kills mildew, but if you bleach it the color might come off (duh)Cut a little snip and bleach it and see if it bleaches itIf not, soak it in a weak bleach and water solution to kill the mildewOtherwise, try non-chlorine bleach like Clorox for colors or Oxy-CleanAgain, test a small snippet of yarn, then soak the skeins in a solution of this then rinse and see how it goesYou could also test some anti-mildew bathroom cleanersThe sun also works quite well in getting rid of mildew, though you have color-bleaching issues with the sun, tooA solution of lemon juice and salt could also work (testing for colorfastness first).
