- If you're expecting to use them for anything other than a science fair project, don't bother. In order to produce any significant amount of power, solar panels have to be made of complex materials and coated with special coatings. If you want to power anything with them you'll need an inverter. Solar is not a DIY project (no matter how much those scam kits claim). If you're serious about solar, call your local solar installer and talk to them about it.
- Q: i check the diodes in the backside of solar panels it reads out to be 0.433 each give me the same result but i was amazed when i check out the last two one which on clamp meter screen give me ''0L'' what this means? is that diode have malfunctions??is this reasons that the output of solar has been decreased?
- First of all, make sure that you are taking readings in the dark (with the solar panel indoors and covered). 0.433 is a reasonable forward voltage for a Schottky diode. Ideally, it diode should read open one way (possibly OL for your meter), and 0.4 the other way. If it's reading OL both ways, the diode is bad. You can either unsolder it or cut it out and verify that it is bad.

- Yes, so are camera sensors. Except in cameras they're specially desgined to reduce noise.

- Most decent laptops can use 50W of power or more....so you'd actually need a large solar panel with good sunlight. I just looked up how big a 50W solar panel is....it's about 64x64 centimeters...which is very big and expensive! So, solar power may not be the best solution to power, or charge a laptop battery. Maybe there are some solar powered chargers that charge the battery very slowly, but probably not.

- Photovoltaic solar panels are priced by the watt. Average price today is just under $4.00 per watt. More efficient panels take less space to produce the same amount of electricity. To design a system, you first must decide how much power you are looking to produce. then you look at the various products to find what fits your need. if you have a very compact space, you may pay more for more per watt for really efficient panels, but if you have a good amount of space you can get lower cost panels that take more space and cost less. With a wind turbine complimenting your system you will only need a modest battery storage bank. 5kw system could get you off grid entirely! 5,000 watts x $4.00 = $60,000. 3kw system with net metering mat cost about $2,000. Many homeowners (like me) build their systems piecemeal to keep costs manageable. Good Luck! P.S. - If you build it with the house, the price can be rolled into the mortgage. $60,000 would add +/- $300.00 a month to your payment, but you would have no Electric bill, a savings of $00-200 a month. Once it is paid for, you only have to pay maintenance costs.

- Good answer above me. One other tip, look at your full year's usage. Last month, if it was cold, you probably didn't have your air conditioner on. Our house uses 500-600 kWh a month average, but we have no air conditioner. To generate all of this requires a 3 kW array in our part of California. That's only to give you an idea of what it takes - what you need will be based on how much sun your area gets, and what percentage of power you want to get from the array. If you pay tiered electric rates, it may make sense to displace only part of your electricity with solar. Or it may not make financial sense at all, if you have cheap electricity where you live. To get the best assessment of what kind of system would be appropriate, try to get one or two no-obligation quotes from local companies. You can always turn down the bids, but at least you will have learned what's involved and the approximate cost.
