Product description

A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell (in very early days also termed "solar battery"[1] – a denotation which nowadays has a totally different meaning, see here), is an electrical device that converts the energy of lightdirectly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, which is a physical and chemical phenomenon.[2] It is a form of photoelectric cell, defined as a device whose electrical characteristics, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary when exposed to light. Solar cells are the building blocks of photovoltaic modules, otherwise known as solar panels.

Solar cells are described as being photovoltaic irrespective of whether the source is sunlight or an artificial light. They are used as a photodetector (for example infrared detectors), detecting light or other electromagnetic radiation near the visible range, or measuring light intensity.

Q: can a small solar panel be charged with lamps?
Sure!...did you ever use a solar powered calculator indoors under a lamp?? It works just fine.
Q: the solar panel works with LEDs, small bulbs, etc but neve with any dcmotor. Please help. I have a science exhibition.
It may be that the power output of your solar panel is not enough to drive the DC motor. It is producing up to 6 volts but it may not be producing many milliamps. LEDs need very little power to work but DC motors often need quite a high current to get them turning. If you can run several solar panels in parallel, you can probably increase the available current. Alternatively, can you expose the existing panel to much more light so as to get it to work at its maximum output? That might work. Good luck with your science exhibition.
Q: Exactly How much power will this kit produce? for example. Will it only be able to power the 2 light throughout an entire day or would it be able to power a couple TV's with a couple lights. Or a Refrigerator? washer dryer? I'm just wondering exactly what it will be able to do and if it's worth paying $200 for if it'll only power two lights. Don't get me wrong, That's great and will make a difference but i'm looking for something that will make a little bit of a bigger difference. Would the 80 watt monocrystalline solar panel be much better? if so, what would it be able to power? double?
I don't have direct experience with the Harbor Freight panels, but have heard that they are agressively rated - i.e., the three 5-watt panels are really 5-watt panels. The 80-watt panel is likely to be a serious panel, rated according to standard test conditions. It will also be more durable, and probably have a warranty of 20 years or more. There's really no comparison. If your goal is to experiment with solar electricity, then get the kit from Harbor Freight (or Northern Tool, or any of a handful of other places). If your goal is to save money, generally you will need a larger scale than 80 watts - several thousand watts being the norm. And the payback time will be measured in years.
Q: Can solar panels be used in cold climates?
Yes, solar panels can be used in cold climates. In fact, cold temperatures can actually improve the efficiency of solar panels by allowing electrons to flow more easily. However, it is important to ensure that the panels are properly installed and maintained to withstand extreme weather conditions and snow accumulation.
Q: I was hearing that we need silver as a medal for the creation of solar panels, is this true? How much silver would be needed to make one solar panel? (if this is true)
Some research has shown that small amounts of silver can improve the efficiency of solar panels. But this appears to be in the research stage and applies to the the thin film solar cells. Some solar panels makes use silver as the wiring in kind of a screen printing process, but you don't need to use silver, you can use copper or aluminum using different techniques instead. Generally the metal used is in small amounts and not a majority of the cost of the solar panel.
Q: How Much energy does Solar Panel Produce, and How long can Solar Panels go without maintenance.
There really isn't any maintenance you need to preform...all you really have to do is clean the surface once in a while. However cleaning the surface is not crucial. A rough rating for a panel is about watt for every 9-2 square inches.
Q: I'm looking to see how much it would be to install solar panels on a home. Or more information on where i would be able to locate a place of purchase, or in general more information...
A Solar panel usually cost between $0,000-20,000 and more. If you're not wanting to spend that much, I suggest you try the DIY solar panel guides. These are step-by-step guides in building solar panels. They are very cheap and overall, you can get solar panels for less than $200. The guide will help you choose where to buy and what to buy so you won't spend thousands of dollars. Whether you're a beginner or an expert, you can do it. If you're interested, just click on the link below. I also added some links where you can read reviews about these guides. Goodluck!
Q: What is the impact of shading on solar panels' performance?
Shading has a significant negative impact on the performance of solar panels. When even a small portion of a solar panel is shaded, it can drastically reduce the overall power output of the entire panel. Shading causes a decrease in the amount of sunlight reaching the solar cells, which in turn reduces the energy production. It can also lead to hotspots and potential damage to the shaded cells. Therefore, shading should be minimized as much as possible to ensure optimal performance and efficiency of solar panels.
Q: How do solar panels affect insurance rates?
Solar panels can potentially affect insurance rates in two ways. First, installing solar panels can increase the value of a property, consequently leading to higher insurance premiums to ensure adequate coverage for the increased value. Secondly, solar panels can be considered an additional risk factor due to potential damage or liability concerns associated with their installation or operation, which may also result in higher insurance rates. However, the extent of these impacts may vary depending on the insurance provider and specific circumstances.
Q: Can solar panels be used to power a cruise ship?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a cruise ship, but it may not be the sole source of power due to the large energy demands of a cruise ship. However, solar panels can contribute to the overall energy supply of a cruise ship, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing its environmental impact.
