Solar panel working process
In addition to being the ultimate source of all life on earth, the sun is an infinitely renewable, completely pollution-free source of electricity. Instead of burning fossil fuels dug up from the ground in a big power plant – a very 19th century, industrial age approach, when you think about it – solar panels convert sunlight directly into electricity, with no harmful emissions.
The basic unit of a solar panel is a solar cell, which usually consists of one or two layers of silicon-based semiconductor wafers. When struck by the photons in sunlight, the solar cell generates an electrical charge due to the "photovoltaic effect" – which is a pretty good name, since it produces voltage from photons. The flow of these electrons moves in a steady electrical current from one side of the cell to the other.
Dozens of these PV cells are packaged together into solar modules, which in turn are packaged into solar panels that are mounted on a rooftop and arranged to maximize their hours of exposure to direct sunlight. Because the electricity generated by all those solar cells is direct current (DC), it is then sent to an inverter that transforms the power into the same alternating current (AC) used by the appliances in your home and the local utility electricity distribution grid. Increasingly, these inverters are getting "smart," providing data monitoring for solar installation performance and other grid integration services.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a hotel?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a hotel. Solar energy can be harnessed through solar panels and converted into electricity to meet the power requirements of a hotel. This renewable energy source can help reduce the hotel's reliance on traditional electricity grids and lower its carbon footprint. Additionally, advances in solar technology have made it more efficient and cost-effective, making it a viable option for powering hotels.
- Q: What size of system would I need to get if I use on average 500 kilowatt hrs a month I would like to do a tie in grid system I live in the states south central area of States any info or links to sites would be wonderful I am interested in this type of energy soure thank you
- Since you are consuming 500 KiloWatts*hours (.5 MegaWatts*hours) per month on average, you need to find out how many KiloWatts per day, so 500 KWh*h / 30 days = 50 KWh per day. With an average of 2 hours of sunlight per day, or even more conservative of 0 hours of sunlight per day 50 KWh / 2 hours = 4.667 KW solar panel system 50 KWh / 0 hours = 5 KW solar panel system An average solar panel is 200W to 250W, so 5 KW / 200W = 25 solar panels 5 KW / 250W = 20 solar panels Solar panels are currently about $ per Watt, so 5 KW of panels is $5,000 A 5KW inverter that is about $5,000 Other incidentals are about $2,000 Total cost (not including labor) is $2,000 Price per KWh is about $0.0 per KWh for East South Central states. Savings per month is *at least* $50 since there are other charges in your electric bill other than usage that are tied directly to your usage as costs. So $50 / month * 2 months = $,800 per year $2,000 investment / $,800 per year = 6.67 years or 6 years, 8 months to pay off the system. Contact many Solar contractors in your area for competitive pricing of labor and for a more detailed analysis of your home.
- Q: How do solar panels perform in extreme temperatures?
- Solar panels perform best in moderate temperatures, typically between 25 to 35 degrees Celsius. However, extreme temperatures can affect their performance. In extremely hot temperatures, solar panels may experience a decrease in efficiency due to an increase in heat-induced resistance. On the other hand, in extremely cold temperatures, solar panels may experience a slight increase in efficiency, as lower temperatures can reduce resistance and improve conductivity. Nonetheless, most solar panels are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures and can still generate electricity in extreme weather conditions.
- Q: Someone Said It costed them 50,000 To Install Solar Panel In their House and 35,000 For Installation. Is that true?
- Are they saying that the panels cost $5k and the installation cost $35k? Or are they saying the panels were $50k, plus another $35k for installation, making the total $85k? Possibly the data was from several years ago. $5k buys 6 kW of panels today, larger than goes on most houses. Installation depends on local labor costs, but should not be more than about $5k in the US, unless the system is huge, or unusual, such as a standalone system on a concrete pad, instead of just on the roof. The system on our roof is roughly 3 kilowatts. If installed today, the parts would cost about $9k. After federal tax credit, $7k. Labor depends on the local situation. We installed our own, so didn't pay any labor cost.
- Q: There are places in the US where it is sunny almost all the time, like the southwest. But if we covered an area of the Sahara with solar panels, the sun exposure with the area would generate enough energy for the whole US at least. Plus, I would imagine it would be a great source of income for those countries. Why isn't this a topic under discussion or even mentioned between countries' governments/in Congress/in politicians' viewpoints?
- It takes companies or citizens to desire to switch their power source. Yes some areas build solar or wind abilities to create power. Its not super cost effective but getting there. Its new technology, that use to be super expensive to make panels, and now is more affordable. In todays world economy, even though it would help down the road, noone has the money to redo their power source right now, its cheaper to just pay the company providing power. All new things take time to be implimented, studied, planned, and permitted. There will be a slow increased usage, but its not like tomarrow everyone will ask for solar power and companies invest to make it available, just cant happen that way. For your Sahara synario, each country can deal with its own power needs, to bring the power from the Sahara to another country is not doable, each desert area could power its nearby areas, when the need and desire arises. In most continents of the world, individual countries are more concerned with basics, clean water and food, and most dont do a good job at providing that, solar power to poor nations, although its a good thought, just isnt a concern now, its clean water and food, medicine is more important. The big picture warrants more diverse ways to get power, but the world is not as one, the countries do not discuss their needs with other countries. Some countries come to the rescue of others on their own if allowed to. Someday, hopefully the world will be more eco friendly, and peole wont starve to death daily
- Q: Do solar panels require a battery?
- No, solar panels do not require a battery to function. However, batteries can be used to store excess energy generated by solar panels for use during cloudy periods or at night when there is no sunlight.
- Q: i am very much interested in making a solar panel, my problem is where i can acquire the main components in order to build it, i am staying here in abu dhabi UAE i'm always searching on the internet for shops that can provide me a DIY kit but i did not find one, i need somebody who knows where i can get these things, please let me know.

- Q: i've heard that solar panel batteries have to be replaced withen 5-0 years. how much do solar panel batteries cost? please include sources!
- Depends on how big a battery you want and what technology. A lot of people use lead-acid batteries (rather like car batteries) and they do need replacing and 5 to 0 years isn't a bad estimate. However, the lead and lead salts content can easily be recycled into new batteries so its not as bad as it may seem.
- Q: I am doing a big project for school, and I have decided to do it on solar panels. I am new to the subject but have done some research on it; I would like to buy a single panel, a charge controller, an inverter and a battery, to charge a simple lamp. My question is if the items in the links will work together and if the panel will produce electricity?

- Q: My dad owns a restaurant, and we are doing farely well, but we were thinking on installing solar panels to minimize electricity costs (and of course make it greener). My dad would like to hear some numbers on the price in today (August 29/202) and savings he could possibly make over the years. So In Total Here's What I'm Asking:) Would it be hard to install?2) Maintanence?3) Monthly Expense? (None?)4) Price?5) Savings over time?6) Pros/ConsThank you so much!
- This is highly sensitive to your geographical location, and what the roof looks like. If there isn't a large, flat area clear of shadows, it will be a hard proposition. The best thing is to contact a local solar installer for a quote. On Y!A, we can't come close without actually walking the roof. In general, few restaurants opt for solar power today. That suggests that it's not very good payback in that situation.
