- If you're in a sunny area, and the cost of electricity is high, solar panels can be worth it. But it's not a big moneymaker, it's something that pays back over long timeframes. We live in northern California, and our system is about break even, but that's because our electricity usage was low to begin with. If you want to see our system, look at the web page in my profile. Are panels worth it in your area? The only way to know for sure is to find a local installer in your phone book, and then ask for local references. If you can't find a local installer, that's a clue, and if they can't give you any references that are nearby, that's another clue. The panels don't actually store energy, the energy is sold back to the power company when what you produce is more than you consume, driving the meter backwards. Again, this is not a big moneymaker, and in fact, it may be impossible to make a profit, depending on your local laws.

- yes they are very recyclable, and you would actually be suprised at how much you get back from them just as materials, as there are still very valuable materials in them.... Often solar shops will accept them back for at a fraction of what you paid, as they can send them back to the manufacturer who then do all the material stripping in them and recycle all the materials there. Mainly depends what type of solar panels you have.... Most probably poly-chystalline or mono-chystalline. If they are that cool blue or black psychadelic looking panel also the manufacturing make that effect is also costly so they would probably look to buying that as well.. I would ask a solar shop where it can be done as the silicon in them are still a very prescious substance..... I would definatly not throw them out or pull them apart just yet

- A solar panel doesn't store energy. As soon as the light stops, the current stops instantly. If it's a 200-watt panel or more, it won't be harmed by a short circuit, but it might be good to turn the panel over or cover it with cardboard before working on it. The spark can slightly mar the contacts. Doing the work indoors is enough to cut down the current, too. For a 60-watt panel or less, I wouldn't even worry about the spark, the power output is too low to do any damage.

- I have an inverter that I use in my vehicle. It is rated for 400 amps this is it's maximum capacity. I can use it for less. It converts 2V DC to 20V AC. So Thais is all I need and may be your cheapest option. If your panels are producing a lot of amperage you may need a regulator to stop charging when your battery is fully charged.
