Q: I need to be able to charge a 2v 7amp battery with a solar panel. I understand that the charge controller will keep the battery from over charging/discharging, but what I don't understand is the amps. The solar panel is rated at 5watts.The solar panel comes with a 2v 3amp charge controller but will I need to buy a 7amp charge controller and replace it with that for my battery pack? Please explain. Thanks in advance.
If it is a charge controller that is wired between the panel and the battery only, then a 3A rating is ample. The controller only has to handle the maximum current that the solar panel can output. The panel will have (or needs to have) an open-circuit voltage that is greater than about 4V in order to actually charge the battery, whose terminal voltage will rise above 2V as it charges. The panel's open circuit output voltage typically is about 7V. The 5W rating is at the maximum power point under the illumination of standard sun and at a specified temperature. That maximum power point probably is around 4V, which means the panel will deliver the following amperage to charge the battery: I = P/V = 5W/4V = 0.36A Since 0.36A is well below the 3A rating of the controller, the controller will not be overloaded when charging the battery. Some charge controllers also have terminals for connecting the load that you want to power. If that's the case, then the controller also needs to be rated to handle that load amperage or higher. If you were to connect a 6A load, then you would like to have say a 0A controller. Hope that helps.
Q: The voltage and power problems of solar panels
From morning to night (with sunshine) solar panel voltage is generally relatively stable, that is basically about 30V; but the output power is always changing, sooner or later, noon; if it is good quality solar energy,
Q: I have purchased a 2 volt LED lantern from argos, it comes with a built in 6 volt 4ah sealed acid battery. What I wanted to know is would I be able to charge it using my 6 volt solar panel?
If it has a 6 volt battery- is it marked 2 volts on an external plug? If so, there is a resistor inside to drop the potential the battery sees. The battery itself could be slipped out and recharged easily from your 6 volt panel. Just determine how much current (in Amps or Milliamps) the panel produces nominally and divide that into 4 and add one fourth of that length of time to make up for system losses. This will tell you how many hours it should charge assuming your starting voltage of the battery is above .5 volts. and the panel is at 3 volts potential or higher. So if your panel puts out amp at 0AM, you would charge for 5 hours. 4 divided by is 4 and one fourth of that is so 4 plus is 5. It is a little more involved than that, but as a rule of thumb. Also do not discharge tha lantern to the point of no light output. LEDs are efficient, but their current will add up. If it is suggest to be able to use the lantern for up to 8 hours on a charge, stick to that value. Lead acid batteries have best longevity when discharged only to 80 percent capacity. Once battery is charged- disconnect from charging source.
Q: There are places in the US where it is sunny almost all the time, like the southwest. But if we covered an area of the Sahara with solar panels, the sun exposure with the area would generate enough energy for the whole US at least. Plus, I would imagine it would be a great source of income for those countries. Why isn't this a topic under discussion or even mentioned between countries' governments/in Congress/in politicians' viewpoints?
Actually there was talk about doing some major solar installations in New Mexico and Nevada. Unfortunately our government put a temporary hold on all large scale solar installations because they feel that they might hurt the local wildlife and more studies need to be done. So, now the huge installations have been put in line and have to go through a bunch of bureaucratic nonsense. Also, just so you know, large solar installations dont generally use photovoltaics. they use concentrating mirrors and concentrate the sun on a pipe with some sort of liquid in it which boils and runs turbines.
Q: Do solar panels require regular inspections?
Yes, solar panels do require regular inspections to ensure optimal performance and identify any potential issues or maintenance needs.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on historic buildings?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on historic buildings. However, it is important to consider the architectural integrity and preservation of the building. The installation should be done in a way that minimizes visual impact and preserves the historic character. Special considerations and regulations might apply depending on the building's status and location.
Q: How can I calculate the amount of watts needed for a solar panel to power a water and air pump in gal/hr and a 600 watt LED light?
With you up to solar panel, then things go downhill. Your Water pump will be rated at gal/hr but how about the air pump? 600watt LED? What you need to know in order to select your solar panel is how much current you will be draining. You can work this out if you know how much power and how long they need to run. Please, a bit more information (that is relevant!).
Q: So I'm trying to figure out what to ask for my birthday because its one of the few times I can get stuff for no reason, like stuff I don't normally go to the store to buy. (i dont go to the store to get much at all anyway).Anyway, I'm interested in solar panels and led and electronics and i was wondering if there is anything not over expensive that would be cool. Some things I'm interested in:solar, wind, water energyGadgets (multitools, swiss army knives)Vibram fivefingersdrawingmaking stuff (duct tape wallets, stuff out of altoids containers)basically technology and outdoors-gear stuffoh and im 6 turnin 7 male.
solar panel is expensive, but small solar panel is not expensive, for example, 5w solar panel, solar light also not expensive led light also not expensive. i am not sure about other stuff that you said
Q: Hey was looking at a 5 watt 2 volt solar panel and was wondering if it'd be enough to power a regular light bulb. Also need to power a 5volt 6.5 amp pump for at most a minute at a time. So basically if I had this panel would I be able to plug a lamp into it and have it light for 5+ hours at a time with the possibility of running the pump? If not what size panel would I need?
NO ! Pump needs 747 watts power. And you need to buy one more expensive DC to AC converter to make it work. Use solar panel at least has 000W output.
Q: I have just made my first dolar panel 20 watts, charges my 27TMX Trojan battery perfectly. Now I am thinking to build more solar panels for a grid tie installation at my house, maybe 5 panels would do it, is this safe?
