- I think this is a question for the specialist. Call them immediately. I would rather than asking strangers- grab the phone book, call after hour number and get the proper answer there. - Absolutely they'll be different. The normal plastic bad is not permeable to much of anything. I'm not sure of your experiment, but if you are using starch and Iodine, with dialysis tubing, the iodine can pass in and out, but starch cannot because the pores in the dialysis tubing are too small. With a platic bag, there are no pores, per se, and so neither the iodine nor the starch can move in and/or out.

- your best bet is to use a dremal with a metal cutting disk you need a steady hand and you will be able to cut at the rings until you can just snap them with your hand then bend it open and pull it off the tubing. if you don't have a dremal you should be able to get one for around 40 bucks and 5 bucks for some metal cutting disks.

As we violinist know,the violin needs constant tuning and if you are using gut strings,would react weirdly to the physical environment should it change. The plastic tubes are to prevent your bridge from being cut by the strings especially by the E string which is very thin.Normally I take off the plastic tubes on the lower 2 strings but I think its okay if you don't too. I don't think it will affect the sound though.Maybe your strings are new so they haven't really settled down yet.Different strings when placed newly create all sorts of odd sounds.I particularly hate the Dominant ones as they have that metallic edge in the sound when its just placed.
