Q:When I turn on my pump for the pool water-fountain it will run for 30 seconds or 4 minutes or anywhere in between then it just shuts off. I push the remote on button on again and it runs for a few seconds. Sometimes it will run for a while longer but mostly short durations. Thanks in advance for your help.
For it to cycle it fairly is maximum possibly a overheat thermostat change someplace on the motor. A fuse would not reset itself. Are you particular the pump is circulating water. If water isn't flowing and motor is on motor can particularly overheat. have you ever tried priming the pump; the pump can no longer artwork if there is air in the pump or pump intake line (pour water down the pump to do away with air)
Q:I have coolant leaking out and i'm pretty sure now that it is the water pump. Question can water pumps leak even if the cars not running?Like a steady drip every two seconds? Forming a decent puddle after awhile, but when running the pump is'nt making any abnormal noises is that normal? Is there other clues to positively know the pump is bad? I cant believe how hard a job it looks like it would be to replace it there is no room! Anybody with some helpful how to's? how about an estimate on how much a shop would charge to do it?
I have a 94 grand am with the 3.1 v6 and really it's an easy job, it looks harder than it is. The biggest thing is getting the serpentine belt off.
Q:Have a Toyota RAV4. About 156, 000 miles on it.Yesterday as I started driving, there was a sound coming from underthe hood that sounded similar to a stick in bicycle spokes. Got to theend of the block and stopped and noticed there was smoke comingfrom below the belts.Got back to the house and the temp was up really high. No fluid.Added fluid and water and it was leaking, but not from the radiatoritself, but from towards the back of the engine?Might this be the water pump?
Nope, could be a bad heater hose that burst. Could be an engine gasket but it will be more issues. I am more inclined if is like you described towards the back of the engine, is the water hose for the heater or the valve that controls the flow.
Q:Okay, I'm setting up an NFT hydroponic garden and am now looking for the water pump. I would like some suggestions for one that will give a steady stream at a good rate for the plants. But, it must have a minimum lift of 5ft to reach the first level.I would prefer one with a flow rate adjustment but if you could at least make a suggestion to the GPH it should pump for the right flow after a 5 ft climb I could search more in that range for one I like.Thank you!
I think you may want to look at the small pond pumps and just about any nursery or home supply store or landscaping store. they may have the specs on hand, or see if they can demo one for you. some places have a display pond set up already. You also might try a small swimming pool pump and put a voltage regulator in the line and adjust the pump speed that way. maybe rig a sewing machine pedal in the line and use a C clamp for an adjuster. I love rigging thing. It may not work with a gfi plug.
Q:Which is the better option for a home water pump? a submersible pump or floor based pump?
In case of pump failure, it's much easier to repair/replace a floor based pump plumbed with isolation valves and unions. I've replaced a few due to motor failures and flood damage. Arguably, the submersible pump wouldn't have suffered damage due to flooding. Another consideration is vertical pump height. A floor based pump has to draw a vacuum to induce water to flow up to the impeller. This limits the practical draw to between 25 and 30 ft. Much more than that height and the vacuum will exceed the vapor pressure of the the water, boiling it rather than pumping it. A special device can be used to boost the lift: an ejector is placed down the well. Water is pumped down to the ejector, which pulls additional water back up using the venturi effect. This method suffers from additional friction losses but has clear advantages. If you need to pump water up a well more than 20 feet vertical, you should consider a submersible pump, particularly if you are concerned about the possibility of the water table lowering.
Q:i installed a new pump don't know how to increase water pressure and to what what pressure it should be set
This is very simple i would sugest the pressure to be set betwene 60 to 70 NO MORE THAN 70. 1. turn off power to pump (ether the circut breaker or a switch near the pressure switch) you dont want to weld the wrench to the switch. 2. remove the cover to the pressure switch its self (usly one #2 phillips screw) 3. now you will see 4 wires under some sloted screws nearest to the front of the switch, behint that is 1 or 2 bolts with a spring and a nut. 4. if you see 2 bolts you will want to turn the nut on the larger one to the right. you will want to tighten it about 1 to 2 full turns. (the same goes if there is only one bolt also) 5. now open the valve that is on the tank untill you here the switch click. then close the valve. 6. turn the power back on tio the pump and watch the pressure gauge on the tank. i DO NOT RECOMEND MORE THAN 70PSI. 7. if it goes over the pressure you want repete steps above exept loosen the nut in about 1/4 to 1/2 turns untill you reach the desired pressure 8. if it does not reach your desired pressure then you do the same thing exept tighten the nut in 1/4 to 1/2 turns untill you attain your desired pressure. 9. when the pressure is reached, replace cover so you dont risk rusting the contacts. if you need more help feel free to email me. and i will assist you in any way that i can.
Q:I have a 2000 chevy impala with 85K on it. I have heard/a weird rattle noise from under the hood for some time now. I once asked about it on here and got suggestions regarding front end problems. I had that checked out and the front end is good. I still have the rattle noise along with a high pitched, but not very loud, squeeling noise when I accelerate. I am leaking coolant and it seems to be coming from near one of the belts. Is this a bad water pump? If so how expensive of a fix is it and how involved of a repair is it?
It sounds like a water pump or maybe a loose connection. It is probably time for a water pump if it hasn't been replaced yet. Parts will run under $60 and it probably involves an hour of labor. The Impala is a big car, it shouldn't be hard to get to and remove. Taking it to a shop will run under $100-$150 for everything.
Q:my 2003 dodge durango broke down 6 weeks ago. the mechanic put it on the diagnostic machine, and it said i needed a fuel pump and a water pump. well i got the fuel pump changed and he told me if i kept water in the car it could hold out for a little while until i get the water pump fixed. so i kept water in it it's been 3 weeks. saturday night all of a sudden i watched the temperature gauge jump to HOT! I pulled over and it was smoking like hell. i'm lucky a friend of mine drove by at that instant and went to his house and got me antifreeze and water and put it in the car. so it was fine sunday. then last nightafter i got home it was smoking again. i let it cool down and then filled it up with water. this morning i took my daughter to school and then drove to my other daughter's daycare and it was smoking like crazy and there was antifreeze and water all over the ground where i parked. so i left it at the daycare and got a ride to work. should i fix the water pump? or is
it may be the waterpupmp but the again it may just be flow valve. Take your car to the dealer and have them look at it. If it's the flow valve then you save a lot of money.
Q:My father in law has a 95 jeep grand cherokee with the v~8 engine, the water pump started leaking so we went to autozone and bought a brand new duralast one with new gaskets, I'm gonna be putting it in when the weather lets me since i have to do it out on the street in front of the house, i was just wondering if anyone on here had any tips for me since i have never done one, I'm not a mechanic but i work on all my own vehicles since i am too poor to take them to a shop, i know a lot more about cars than he does so he asked me to help, it didn't look to hard but i'm not quite sure what im getting myself into, any advice or tips about this job is greatly appreciated. And please don't post telling me to take it to a mechanic as this is not a option for us, i will get it done i just thought somebody could help make it go a lil smoother with some pointers... Thanks
make sure the when ya take the old one off that ya clean the surface real good where it bolts on. razor blade to take off any old gasket ect. some fine sandpaper to sand it down smooth for the new gasket helps to,just dont gouge it.use some of that red silicone in a tube, can get it at any auto parts, smear both sides of the gasket, the engine , and the water pump. let it cure out till its almost dry. bolt the new one on but when ya tightening it down do the bottom bolts first then the top bolts. add the antifreeze and check for leaks .good luck
Q:Why does the water pump leak?
Two reasons. One is that the gap between the bearings becomes larger. Damage the water seal. One is the aging of water seal.
