Q:so when my daughter got out of the tub last night it would not drain (it was empty this morning)also when we were done brushing teeth last night and this morning water was not draining from sink? any ideas why?: It sounds like the main branch that connects the two drains together may have a obstruction! More than likely it may be hair in the bathtub drain, and the sink. Try this: Fill up a large pan of water and put it on the stove, now heat that up to a boiling point. While that is heating up, go into bathroom and remove stopper from tub drain (if possible) and see if the drain is just clogged with hair. If it is, then use needle nose pliers or a hook of some sort to pull all of it out. That should do the job. Then continue with the step below. If you cannot get the stopper off or there's no visible obstruction, then continue to te next step.. Just make sure that both sink stopper are up and no visible obstruction is in the way. Next, carefully take the pan of boiling water and dump it right down the tub drain...let it sit for a couple minutes. Then next put a wet hand rag into the overflow (right above drain in tub) to cover up the opening so no air goes through the overflow for the next step. Now use a plunger and gently start plunging the water down. The trick to plunging is not to force the air down, but the suction up is where it works best! Pulling it up hard, and then gently pushing back down repeatably works well. If after 5 minutes no luck..wait until water goes down all the way, and then repeat the boiling water and plunging 2-3 times and that should do it. Let me know if that works for you.

Q:Water takes forever to go down the drain, and weve tried draino and vinegar and baking soda, which neither worked. We cant snake because the damn stopper doesnt come out. What else can we do?: both sinks and the tub get drain problems. The simplest way is to get a piece of wire about 4 inches long and put a short curl at the end and then attach a piece of strong string to a curl at the other end and hook that string to that tight curl with a couple of knots. So you're ready then to pull up anything that's clogging the pipe near the surface (and yes you can do it around the stopper) and you should do this monthly (in all 3 places). From my experience Draino only plugs it more, but Liquid Plumber does work for me. When I go to sleep I'd pour a full bottle down there and then close the stopper and then in the morning I'd heat a pot of water on the stove and pour it into the drain and again close the stopper for a couple of hours and that has always cleared the drain in the past for me, however using it too often you can ruin the pipes so using the hooked wire is your better bet.

I know this is disgusting and I don't know what to do about it???: If you live in the UK then bathrooms usually have water supplied by a tank hot from the tank in your airing cupboard which is mains fed, cold is usually supplied by a tank some times in the loft which can become contaminated although this is mains fed there is a loose lid which could become dislodged I have heard of dead birds in cold water tanks. Worst case scenario is that your tank has been contaminated on purpose. Speak to your management company or health department and explain the problem, in the meantime use bottled water to brush your teeth and ask other residents if they have a similar problem
