Q:I just want to know why Oahu is vulnerable to black outs
You know, it not that bad, so not sure why you say they vulnerable to black outs, sure we have some, but not that often, ok? Here the thing, all electric power on island generated by diesel generators, and some time they break down, and infroastructure very suseptible to dampness, so when it rain, like rite now, we gonna get some power outages, but I neva see a true black out where all power out in city, that kinda thing, ok? Maybe they happen when I asleep, ok? Peace and aloha
Q:Why not samoto diesel generator power
damage to the circuit or circuit breaker, short circuit or grounding
Q:Hi, this may be a stupid question but im a city slicker planning on campong and i want to buy a honda generator, What kind of fuel does it use? where do i get it? thanks.
The manual will tell you. I'm sure it will say to use regular gasoline. Buy the gas at your favorite filling station.
Q:How much power does the generator from the diesel need to produce in order to bring the train up to running speed?
That all depends upon a number of things. First is the type of traction motor that is driving the wheels. Next is the weight of the entire load to be moved by the traction motors. Also is the grade the load is being moved upon. When a locomotive gets up to speed it might not be using many amps by the traction motors to maintain the speed. However, to start from a dead stop on flat track with a very heavy load it could run as high as 200 or more amps. Again, it also would depend upon the number of engines driving the number of generators driving the number of traction motors. A single locomotive might need to use more amps to get up to speed than a combination of locomotives hauling the same load. There are many variables to this question. Given a particular locomotive, types of traction motors, the load weight, it would be easier to calculate what would be needed in amperage. Everything depends upon all of these things. An engineer can burn up a traction motor(s) by exceeding the amount of amps maximum that the motor can handle. The generators don't care, nor do they figure into the problem. The diesels don't care either. They will just turn the generators faster with more RPM's, and the faster they run, the more the generators will produce, but will the traction motors handle what is given them?? It just depends .
Q:I need a flowchart of the endergy conversions while popping popcorn. Example: Chemical energy to physical energy to nuclear energy, etc.
Starting from the pop and moving towards the energy source The kinetic energy of the popped kernel converting to heat when the kernel comes to rest. The kinetic energy of the kernel from the explosion due to steam and the steam escapes with kinetic and heat energy that transfers to the ambient air as the steam condenses and then the droplets fall and convert kinetic energy to heat. Potential energy in the steam as it builds pressure inside the kernel The transfer of heat from the burner into the popping vessel to raise the temperature of the moisture inside the kernel to make steam Where did the energy come from to heat the burner? I will assume it is electrical energy created from a diesel generator peaker plant nearby There is resistance in the burner heating element that converts the electric current to heat. There is also resistance in the wires and transmission lines and transformers that carry the electricity from the power plant to the burner, which is all lost to heat. The electricity is created from a generator where there is an wire-wound aperture spinning in the presence of a magnetic field. The kinetic energy of the aperture gets converted to the electrical energy and sent out on the transmission lines. The kinetic energy of the aperture is created inside a diesel engine by connecting it to the crank shaft - some friction losses due to bearing surfaces. The kinetic energy of the crank shaft is created from an explosion inside a piston. The explosion creates an expansion of gases that push the piston, which spins the crank shaft. Some of this energy is lost to heat dissipatin and friction. The explosion was from the conversion of the chemical energy in the diesel fuel to heat. The pressure in the piston caused the fuel and oxygen mixture to explode. How's that? j
Q:Hi and thanks for reading.I have a small trailer I am looking for a back up propane generator for.We have wind storms here that knock out power for days on end, about a half dozen times per year, so I'm looking to get some back up electricity, howeverMy lot size is SMALL, so is my trailer. I have a natural gas line, and gas furnace, so I only use about 1500 watts at peak times, so I figure a 3k watt generator will more than cover my needs.SOUND is a huge factor. I have the worst neighbors in the world and I really need something quiet. I'm looking for something with less than 60 ddb.I have seen a lot of propane generators that look good, but I dont know if they can be used with natural gas easily. I think so, but would love to hear if thats true, and they dont have the standby plug feature, which I need to save my fish tank, any know if this can be easily changed by a skilled electrician?Thank you. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I've seen ones running propane, gas and diesel. The larger units for the power you want normally come in their own enclosure helping to keep noise under control. I've not see one designed for natural gas. No propane ones are not designed for natural gas. The engines have to be designed to handle it so you would need to converse with a place selling these to find out if such are available. If not contact the mfrs for information as to this conversion idea. The enhance quiet you can also build an enclosure around the generator which would limit sound travel from the unit.
Q:For over a year, about once a month I start this Jeep and run it about 10 minutes. Zero problems until yesterday. It has fresh gasoline just added, cranks over fine, has spark (I have a spark tester) but will not 'pop' over. Upon closer inspection I see it has at least 6 Bosch type relays under the hood and know if one sticks something will not turn on. Any idea's where to start troubleshooting?(I am a retired US Navy diesel generator mechanic).
spray some ether in the intake and see if it fires, if so follow the fuel system until you find the issue. Make sure the fuel pump is running, and make sure you are getting fuel to the engine. A bad fuel pump relay or plugged fuel filter could cause this. Also check your air filter, in one case i saw a vehicle where someone had checked their oil then left the rag under the hood, well the engine creates a vacuum when its turning over and running, well it pulled the rag into the air box and plugged the filter.

Q:I know I take for granted that I have indoor plumbing but where does the water pressure that causes water to flow come from when I turn on my sink? Is it a pump. Where does the energy come from?
The water drains out of the sink because it is a downhill flow from the sink to the sewerage outlet. The actual pressure is due to the height of the water and gravity. This can be stated as a head, in meters. Similarly the water comes out of a tap because it has a downhill flow from the supply reservoir typically. This can be a tank on a hill, or a tower. The water is transferred to the reservoir from its source like a lake by a pump, which gets it uphill to the reservoir. The pump is usually an electric one, though a diesel generator could be used as backup, or even a diesel driven pump could be used. Electricity is cheaper to run, considering the energy involved can be costly. The static pressure comes from the height of the reservoir above the tap outlet. This is also seen as a head. The typical pressure is 40 to 80 psi (equivalent to 30 to 60m of head or water column). Once the water is flowing at full bore the pressure drops, due to the pipe resistance and such effects, typically represented as 10-20psi approx. 8 to 16m of head. This is the pressure before the water leaves the tap (faucet), and is enough to flow through some device like a shower. At a remote property a tank stand may be used to get some height, or a pressure pump, which is equivalent. With a pressure pump the water is pumped into a rubber bladder like a large football bladder, so it can be squeezed out on demand. The pump runs cyclically as required to keep sufficient pressure in the bladder. This arrangement is known as an accumulator. High buildings may have related accumulators or a reservoir on top, and a pump/s to get water up there.
Q:Going to buy another vital generator have 2 deals on the table . gas generac 8000 running watt $1350. new or 5000 watt kipon desiel used about 4 years $800. needs new battery. what would you pick and why? thanks
The diesel is a little bit better buy. What about service on the unit? Who will do that? The difference in the 5 vs 8 kw is not a consideration. The gas units are over rated, the diesel produces more power for the rating. If you can do the service on the diesel go for it.
