Q:I am getting married this October and I'm having my reception in a banquet hall...it's very nice and of course they provide white tableclothes for their round tables but their chairs are like an ugly pinkish color...I'm wanting to get some white chair covers to cover them up and make it look more elegant. The banquet hall recommended a place that they use and I guess the people come out and steam the covers on the chairs so they aren't wrinkled and they have a display out at the hotel we are having the reception at and they are really nice but they are $6 a chair cover and I'm having over 200 guests at my wedding and I don't want to be spending that kind of money on just chair covers. Just wanted to know if any of you have ever ordered chair covers online that you can rent? I found a website where you can rent them and they are only like $1 or $2 for each chair cover, but I hate to order them and they come and are are really wrinkled and don't even look nice...any of you done this?: Its a tough dilemma. I know that typical banquet chairs can be hideous and clash with decor. At the same time, I've attended beautiful weddings without chair covers. As a guest, sometimes you just don't notice those things. Does the banquet hall have pictures from other weddings so you can get an idea of how much the uncovered banquet chairs do or don't take away from the ambiance? Those chair covers are just so darn expensive. I think it would be a lot of undue stress to have to worry about ironing and placing 200 chair covers in the few days before the reception. If you HAVE to have the covers, call a couple of local competitor vendors and try to get a better deal. Maybe you can get the spandex chair covers (those don't have to be ironed right?) and offer to pick up, drop off and apply yourself, maybe they'll knock of some $.

Q:I have some chairs that have cushions down half the back and on the seat. I want to recushion the top and make it wider and the cushion go all the way down to the seat. (Turn them into Parsons chairs) What would be the easiest way to do this?: I would use foam, wledbond, plywood, string, buttons and fabric. First measure the base of your chair at the seat and figure out the hieght you would like the parsons chairs to be. If you chair is 18 wide at the base, and you want them to be 24 high, then you would need your plywood to be 14 x 21 high {approx.}. You can get this cut for a fee {usually} at any lumber or home improvement store. Take the lumber and attach it to the chair with weldbond and clamps {and l have no idea of your chairs but weldbond works on metal and wood} or anything that will hold it tight while it hardens. Let this be glued firmly and completely dry...for extra security you can tie with rope {it will be covered with the foam} . Get some 2 {or more} thick foam and cut it so you have one long strip that is 50 long by 28 wide. Now on the inside seat part of the back of the chair, take a staple gun {or if you have little hands like me, use a nail and hammer} and attach string every four inches or so in a grid layout} Now take the foam and make holes with a knife or sizzors to line up with string. Take your weld-bond and spread it evenly over the plywood {be generous} front and back. Take the foam and lay it beginning on the inside bottom edge, pulling through the string as you apply it to the glued surface, bring it over the top, and then down the back of the chair, you will have excess on the sides and final bottom edge, but this can be trimmed later. leave to dry on the floor lightly tie and hold in place with string. Take fabric and cut to the same size, drape it in the same manner, making holes and pulling through string Attach with upholstorers nails. Tke the string and attach big beautiful funky buttons. They will look fabulous!!!

Q:I rented fifty chairs for my in home wedding because I invited fifty guests. I am concerned that some people will not come and this will make the room feel empty. Should I not set up all of the chairs until the thirty five or so already set up are filled or just set them all up to begin with?: I would set them all up, because some people will put an empty chair between them and the next set of guests. And you certainly don't want to set up 35 chairs, and then 10 minutes before the ceremony starts have someone fooling around with setting up 15 more chairs, ya know? Set them all up, it will be fine. Q:I hate this chair! There is only one control item--a lever, and I've never used it at all. Yet my chair is a different height every other week. This morning I found it so high, my feet don't touch the floor and I can't figure out how to lower it! I've moved the lever in and out and every which way, but the chair doesn't budge.: Some old chairs adjusted just by screwing in and out of the central column. Since yours has a lever, this is probably not the case. If you have never used the lever, then we can't be certain what it does, but on most I have used, pulling up on the lever while seated should allow the chair to lower. Pulling up while off the chair should allow the chair to rise. Some I have seen also let you push or pull the lever to lock or allow the back to tilt some. If you have tried this, the pneumatic cylinder may be shot. Likely just need a new chair.

Q:why on earth would I feel better in the morning sleeping in that old chair than in bed? thats just crazy: I think it's very soothing and relaxing to fall asleep in a reclining chair. The reason you feel better is because your bed has springs and those springs are a killer. Do your ever wonder why you keep on tossing and turning during the night? It's those springs. They're horrible for your back. Even if you don't toss and turn, you will most likely feel stiff in the morning. Ever saw one of those Tempur-Pedic beds on a commercial? Really expensive, but probably worth the money because your back will thank you.
