Q:I had a re-manufactured water pump installed and after 14 months I started smelling my radiator occasionally. Never suspected the pump since my original pump lasted 60,000 miles and was still fine when they replaced it feigning quot;it is customary to replace water pump with timing beltwhen in actuality my Hyundai Elantra just needs the pump checked every 60,000 miles. The re-manufactured water pump was diagnosed leaking for sure after 20 months. Anyway I believe the leaking pump which didn't get discovered for at least 4 to 6 months caused the early demise of my radiator. Does that make sense? Thanks,Mitzi
i strongly disagree. a leaky pump, loosing fluid, replaced by air via a recovery system, will create excess water jacket pressures. ergo, the radiator. even if it has air trapped in it. that excessive pressure, if the rad is marginal/old, can cause rad leaks. any seasoned mechanic out there has experienced a vehicle that had air in it, and be so hot as to charge the system. on some, you can actually here them go bang as water/coolant, flows into a part of the systems that has just air. that sends pressure shock waves through out the system. i've experience some so hot, they won't shut off. dieseling per say. ---------- EDIT, Michael sir. i'm an ex fighter jet hydraulic/pneumatic tech USAF. 40 yr auto mechanic. 5 yrs on Harley's (iron blocks). been dealing with the use of compressed fluids and gas for some time now. ex boeing employee on the 747 as well. i just don't ahve all that in my profile. mostly, i just let facts speak for themselves. weather or not an OP see's that is up to them. --------- pressure can built up faster than it can be bleed off in *some* cases. especially if it's a slow leak. those were generic statements. meaning, they are a possibility. not out of the realm of possibility, and would be far from the first time it ever happened, that a bad pump can cause other parts of the coolant system to malfunction. i've seen marginal rads, hoses, and even heater cores go as a result of over pressureazation of the water jacket. but i meant no disrespect here. i will delete my seasoned mechanic remark. simply stating i have seen/experienced, in the shop, over the years, many instances like what i stated. it's not impossible!!! i'll delete all this crap too if you delete your remark. how bout it? friends?
Q:My friend wants to buy a 90's somethin dodge avenger.( not sure what year) and the guy says the water pump is bad. Does the car have to be re timed when u replace the water pump?
There is no connection between the water pump and the timing. Timing is a function of the engine ignition system, water pumps are part of the cooling system. There is no relationship. The water pump is driven by the belt that drives all the other engine accessories. Changing a water pump does not in any way effect timing.
Q:I would like to make a simple electric pump that can pump water. I would like to know how it works. I would be most thankful if you can provide me a link of an animated video on how motor works.
I don’t think I’ll ever understand why some people will go through the effort to ask simple questions here when the “answers” are two clicks away. Google images for “water pump diagram”. Seriously, or is this another question from India. I’m starting to think they don’t get Google over there for some reason. anyway…… The issue here is you have not defined the problem very well. How much water do you intend to pump? Is it from a well and how deep is it? The most primitive hand powered water pump I can imagine is a crank and bamboo cups on a rope (for lack of better terminology). You tie a bunch of old water bottles or milk jugs to circular rope and sling it over a pulley. Crank on the handle and drag up a container of water. It gets to the top, pores out, and goes back down. Simple, cheap, hand powered water pump! (and quite appropriate for developing nations – heck, may even get a Piece Prize for implementation)
Q:I drive a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander and I am required to change my timing belt as part of preventive maintenance. When I had been to Firestone, they quoted $998 for Timing Belt Water Pump (both parts labor). When I called Midas, they quoted $550 for the same. Does anyone know why there is such a big difference? I have been a regular at Firestone, so Midas is new to me. Are they reliable? Midas is quoting low now, but would there be a surprise charge after I get it done? BTW, how is a water pump related to a timing belt??
The Difference is the amount of money being charge for labor, plus the mark up on the parts that most repair shops have. they may get the parts from the same place and pay the same price but have different pricing at the end. Labor rates vary thopugh they charge the same amount of time to do the Job (flat rate) their labor hour charge might be different. I would look closely at both WRITTEN Repair estimates and see what each one is charging for the belt and the Water Pump and how much labor they are charging for the Job. As to how the Water pump is related to the timing belt, The pump has to be rmoved to replace the Belt.
Q:A direct type pump model with the coupling type, what is the difference?
The direct type shall be the same shaft of the pump and the motor, and the connecting shaft is a pump and the motor shall be 2 shafts, and shall be connected by a shaft coupling.
Q:How hard is it change a 1993 subaru imprezza water pump
hi Silicone wont do it, keep in mind the rad cap says 15lb. On my truck there's a center gasket and it leaked out the backside. So it probable has to return out. or possibly a bolt got here out?
Q:Water pump belongs to power equipment or mechanical equipment?
It's mechanical equipment!
Q:We use this water pump for about 2 years, and in the last week the circuit breaker trip when we turn on the pump. What should I check first for the problem?
When the pump motor starts, it engages a start winding that can draw enough current tripping the breaker in question. I would recommend that you change the breaker. It may have become weak after years of operation of said pump. It is a very good idea to dedicate a breaker for this motor. This configuration will insure that there's not another appliance in the circuit that may cause this problem of overloading said breaker when a limit switch closes to turn on the pump. Feel free to e-me.
Q:1988 fleet wood prowler 22HJust bought it, first time camper owner. I need a battery and a water pump. I only want to buy one, but don't want an overpriced pump. Preferably one I could find at a chain store locally. Can anyone recommend a good one? Also, is there anything I should know before I take my camper to a rv hook up site? I have a pressure regulator that will twist on my spicket on the outside of my camper. Do I need any other kind of regulator, or hose, besides my pump before I go hook up?Can I hookup without a pump? The pipe is capped off where the pump would go. Thanks!
If you are connected to a campsite water supply you do not need a pump. The pump is only required to deliver water from the fresh water tank of your camper to the faucets and if equipped toilet of your camper when you are not connected to City water, ya I know I have probably been connected to an actual City water supply 4 days in over 10 years of trailer camping... but any campground water supply is referred to as a city supply in the trailer literature. The only accessory I recommend to have is a combination filter which will stop both sediment ( very common in campground water lines ) and secondary charcoal filter which will reduce both taste and chemical intrusions on your system / palate. Would I buy a basic system demand pump? Yes, but if the cost of the pump stands between your camping season and your camping plans for the season, cancel the pump and camp!
Q:i'm changing the tyming belt the vehicle has done 120,000 km should i replace water pump as well
Hi strange you say this it seems like when ever a timing belt is changed on a toyota the water pump is always an issue, i was warned that the same is true on my land criuser that the water pump may need to be replaced when the timing belt is changed.
