PORTLAND CEMENT
Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.
It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

- A view of the ocean! You are so lucky. I am guessing that the patio is a red brick color? I think all eyes should be on the ocean, lounging in a couple very comfortable chairs with a little table. The Pottery Barn has some really nice looking outdoor wicker and if you put some neutral color cushions on them like a sandy beige, or a pale grey. An outdoor rug to go over the red cement to make it look like an outdoor room would look great also. A couple of potted plants and you have an outdoor living space. Enjoy! I have woods and trees, but no ocean.
- Q:what is plastic cement? does it contain asbestos?
- Polystyrene Plastic cement is an adhesive used for joining polystyrene parts. The cement contains a solvent that melts the surface of the plastic, allowing the two parts to fuse together. As the solvent evaporates the strength returns to the material, the components having been 'welded' together. As with the asbestos stuff, I don't think the new batches of gun pestic cement has any. The last I know of were supplies that were manifactured before 1991 by subsidiaries of a certain company. These ones contained asbestos. I don't think they do anymore. It has been rectifed. Plastic cement is available as both gel (tube or gun form) and liquid (bottle with applicator).

- They are the same in that they are both adhesives, that's about as far as it goes. Rubber cement is used for a variety of applications, a number of which are temporary, it behaves as though it is a liquid rubber, it will stretch, remains flexible and is water resistant. contact cement is usually permanent, it can be released with the use of a solvent, an example of contact cement is the laminate applied to counter tops, commonly referred to as Formica. You apply a thin coat of the adhesive to both surfaces to be bonded. let it dry to the touch, then position the two pieces, usually with separation sticks placed between the two, you start removing them one at a time from the center or one edge, as you remove them you apply pressure to the two pieces as they touch, when all sticks have been removed you roll the two with a hand roller to bond them, at that point you do not separate the two without a solvent, there is no moving the piece around to position, when they touch they stick, that's it
- Q:I have decided to cement the outside of my house in a stucco design. What materials will I need?
- First, I think you need to put a special wrap on your existing siding. I am not sure what this would be; ask at your home repair store. Then you have to install a railing on the bottom of the design as a guide and also to keep the cement in a straight edge and also from sliding. I watched a guy cement his house and he constantly put little strips of mesh on the area he was working and slopped more cement over it. I would study up on this first before I begin on a project like this. I think the major obstacle is getting the cement to stick on the surface, it would be discouraging if you cemented a section and the next day it was on the ground in one whole piece.

- The difference between concrete and cement is that concrete contains cement plus sand and gravel. It is the cement that binds the sand and gravel or crushed rock together to form what we call concrete. Concrete then, is more than just cement.
- Q:gieve the perfect ratio separately for walls, concretes..
- I would use gravel and sand. For a 1 cubic yard concrete mix, use the following: 600 lbs cement 1250 lbs gravel 1650 lbs sand 45 gallons water (about 375 lbs) If you have to use all sand, then just use a 5:1 ratio and use a water to cement ratio of about .6 (6 lbs water to 10 lbs cement) This will put you at about 3000 psi. Don't add too much water as your strength will drop a bunch. Easier way: Just call the local concrete batch plant and ask for 3000 psi concrete. I would also call a local engineering firm to send someone out to take some concrete samples to make sure you get what you ordered. It'll cost a couple hundred bucks for the concrete tests, but it's worth it if you are building a house which will cost tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars.
