PORTLAND CEMENT

Portland cement is the most common type of cement in general use around the world, used as a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar, stucco, and most non-specialty grout.

It is a fine powder produced by heating materials in a kiln to form what is called clinker, grinding the clinker, and adding small amounts of other materials.

Several types of Portland cement are available with the most common being called ordinary Portland cement (OPC) which is grey in color, but a white Portland cement is also available.

Application

Q:My father has been using a really loud and strong nail gun to mount stuff in our new place that has cement walls. I did some research and found that you should drill a hole and do a bunch of other stuff as safety precautions. The website i found said that if there was an earthquake, the walls would crumble if you used a nail straight into cement. Is this true?I live in an area where we dont even have earthquakes often at all, which is Southern Ontario, Canada, but im still a little concerned because we had one last summer. Also, We live on the 10th floor, so if an earthquake does happen, it would shake a lot more up here. He also has been mounting stuff on the cement ceiling as well.Should I be concerned?: I have been using a Hilti Nail Gun for years To fasten 2 bys onto concrete to fasten Garage Doors to. I have never had to pre drill holes! Couple of times doing this the board split and I had to start over. Trying to pull the Nails out from the nail gun was impossible, I ended up breaking them off> That's what they are designed to do. They will even shoot them into steel beams.

Q:Im trying to level my floor with self levelling cement. I know its supposed to be runny but i may have put too much water on it. Unfortunately i already dumped it on the floor. Will it eventually dry up.: maybe. at best you will probably have a solid concrete layer with a layer of water over it. the concrete will not be smooth. you may be able to sop up the excess water and smooth the concrete before it cures.

Is that legal and how much would it cost?: firstly to build a wall is classed as a non-tempory construction so you will probably have to ask your town mayer or local council if you can put one up first. and for a brick wall covered in cement would cost around ?35 per square metre. If you do decide to put one up try shaving one side of the tennis ball and then play around with that i have done this in the past when playing against my house wall and the idea behind it is so that it puts a spin on the ball and makes it change direction more so that you don't know where its going to come from which i think makes it a bit more fun and challenging.

Your boyfriend needs to go see a doctor for this. The cement on his skin can cause a chemical burn, and he needs to get it off. It's important that he go now, even if the only place open at this hour is the Emergency Room. If at all possible, he should bring the package that the cement was in so the doctors can see for sure what they're dealing with. Also, if your bf has access to the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS for short) for the cement, he should bring that to the hospital too. Actually, the MSDS would probably be the more useful thing to bring if that's all he has access to. He might insist that it's no big deal and that his hands will be fine. Guys like to act tough like that. Ignore him and drag him to the hospital if you have to. ;)
