Q:I have a 1982 Yamaha xs 400 and the front brakes are not functioning, the motorcycle otherwise runs well. I was wondering what the approximate cost would be to have the brakes repaired by a mechanic?(In case you're wondering I am looking to have the motorcycle repaired and will gladly accept mechinic quotes. I live in Brookfield, CT.)Thanks.
The rav 4 has constant drive to the rear wheels and uses the ABS sensors to detect if slipage occurs, this info to the ECU triggers the electronic engagement and disengagement of 4WD. No buttons to press. Hope this answers your question.
Q:I‘m learning to ride a motorcycle on my own, First gear seems fine. But when i shift to second gear and apply a break, the bike engine stops. And when i apply break in first gear, the bike stops aswell.Do i need to leave the accelerator handle when i press the clutch while gear shifting? and if im riding on 2nd or 3rd or 4th gear, and i need to apply a break, should i break first and then shift down? or first shift down? and do i need to hold the clutch while applying the break? When im on 2nd or 3rd gears, Do i still need to leave accelerator handle before shifting up the gear??and Do i need to release the clutch and accelerate simultaneosly and slowly like in first gear?
There are two methods to braking. Racing method: As you apply the brakes you also down shift at the same time. This leaves the bike in the correct gear as you slow down so that you can accelerate quickly if you have to. As you are braking you will release the clutch after each downshift while still braking. Casual method: As you apply the brakes you hold in the clutch. This allows only the brakes to slow the motorcycle down. After the person comes to a complete stop, they will then down shift while holding in the clutch. The racing method also uses the engine to slow the motorcycle down. Even casual riders will use the racing method of stopping. Just don't be doing 100 mph and downshift all the way down to 1st. The rear wheel will lock up and you will over rev the engine. You have to judge your speed in comparison to the gear you are in. To up shift: Back off the throttle, engage the clutch, change to the next gear, release the clutch and apply the throttle. If you do it smoothly (clutch and throttle) you will barely notice that you changed gears.
Q:Let's say I'm going 60 km/h and I want to stop. Do I have to hold the clutch, apply the brakes, and downshift as I slow down until I'm in first gear so that I can stop? Or do I just hold the clutch and apply the brakes until I'm stopped and then downshift to first before I get going again? What's the best way to come to a stop in a normal situation? What about in an emergency situation? (Again, assuming I am in a higher gear) I just had my first lesson (sooo much fun) but we only went up to second gear so it's easy to get back into first and stop. Detailed answer, please!!Thanks!!!
I dont know what the other guy was saying when he said that you don't wanna be flying arou d with no gear! There's nothing wrong with pulling in the clutch! Anyway! It depends on the situation if you want to stop fast I shift down to 1 and let out the clutch all the way than apply both breaks! Don't lock them up though! If you just wanna slow down, I just down shift and maybe the back break
Q:Motorcycle ran just fine until it tipped over on the right side. It didnt hit too hard but hard enough to bend the rear brake pedal. Now when I try to start it it tries to crank then starts a clicking type sound then nothing but I can still hear the gas trying to move through the bike. Anyone know what this problem could be? It is a 1981 gs450.
This clicking sound is a spark plug cap dislodged. You are hearing spark against engine #x2F; ground. Check plug wire and plug because often the tip over will break the spark plug.
Q:How to back up your motorcycle on an extremely steep hill ( if you have to, can‘t go any forward ).bike is facing downhill and the bike is so heavy that there is no way to back it up normally. once you release the brakes the bike go forward really quick.
There's no way to do it. You just have to plan ahead and not get into such situations. Or if you're already in that situation, get someone to help you. I have two bikes, and the bigger one is over 600 lbs. When I first got it, I parked it with the front wheel against the curb, and when I went to leave I found I couldn't back it up at all, just against the slight slope of the edge of the street. I noticed that Harley riders always -back- up to the curb, and now I realized why. 8^) So now I do that. I look at every parking space to see if it slopes downward at all, and if so I back into it.

The motorcycle rider failed to maintain control of his/her vehicle, and is responsible for his/her own injuries. I suppose it's possible that one could sue for damages because the unsafe lane change contributed to the cause of the accident, but the only people who would end up making money on the deal would be the lawyers.
Q:do trial bikes have a conventional clutch operated by a lever on the handlebars, or is it a centrifugal clutch? also how many speeds does the transmission have? and as far as the brakes go, where are they located? it just seems like it would be really hard to do the things they do on trial bikes with the same control setup as a normal motorcycle
trials bikes have a hydraulic clutch , located on the handlebars, but only require one finger. ( 'cuz its hydraulic). one of mine is a 5 speed, ones a 6 speed. they have disc brakes front rear. hydraulic also, requiring only one finger on the front. the controls are the same as a conventional dirt bike, (with the exception that the shifter is further forward to prevent accidental shifts) but much more precise. only the 50cc bikes have a centrifugal clutch.
