- Q: Can you give me your thoughts on your bamboo floor? Is it water resistant? Does it scratch easily? Was it expensive? How do you feel about it if I have 2 small dogs.. about 14 lbs each? Comparable to solid hardwood or different?? I'm going crazy trying to decide: Laminate, bamboo or hardwood... Any suggestions?? Thank you.
- it depends on the room. My sister put bamboo in her kitchen and my brother put laminate in his kitchen. Both have kids and pets and both regret their choices because the materials have become dinged and marked up within a couple of years and have also suffered water damage due to the backings being absorbent. If you can afford it, use hardwood in most living spaces. In a kitchen or bath, I recommend porcelain ceramic tile. My kitchen has 12" square porcelain tile and I like it a lot. Completely impervious to anything a child or animal can do do it. I used the matte finish textured type so it isn't slippery. It looks like reddish tan sandstone. I would never use regular laminate in any area with moisture or heavy wear -- I've seen too many disasters with it in other peoples homes. Plus I think it always looks fake, not matter how "high end" it is. One exception is an excellent, cheap and easy solution though that might be perfect for you: the TrafficMaster Allure vinyl laminate floor that looks like wood. Check it out in Home Depot and I think you'll be surprised how real it looks and feels at half the price of most other flooring. It's simple to install, is comfortable and soft for kids, impervious to moisture and looks good. I've used Trafficmaster tiles in two of my homes and it always gets compliments and is as tough as nails. You could hose it down if you needed to -- it's solid vinyl. Plus, if you want to upgrade to something else later, it is a "floating" floor and rips out quickly.
- Q: I have bamboo wood floors and I have been mopping them with mop glo and a regular Libby mop-they are really spotty though. Does anyone have any other ideas on what to use to get them squeeky clean?
- The primary benefit of bamboo flooring is of course it’s environmentally friendly nature. Unlike the majority of wood suited to flooring, it’s available in vast supply. Bamboo trees also reach maturity significantly faster than most trees and this means that when a forest is cut down, it doesn’t take decades to replenish itself. This means that bamboo is classified as a rapidly renewable wood or timber source. Bamboo floors are warm and inviting. They can add a touch of class and refinement to just about any room. Unlike many aspects of interior design, bamboo floors are neither a trend or a fad, making them a timeless addition. You can install them in your home, safe with the knowledge that they’ll look just as good ten years from now.
- Q: Since you have so promptly responded to my questions I have another one for you - nothing to do with my mitre saw. We have bamboo flooring - which to our understanding is supposed to be really tough. Ours must NOT have a zillion protective coats on it like some of the hardwood flooring I see advertised (with 7 coats or whatever). Anyway - our floor has a few chips and scratches - one particular area where the protective surface is literally peeling away (it cracked after my husband moved the fridge) - can I do a spot repair? Would I just buy some clear varathane - sand where it is peeeling and coat it a couple of times. I do not want to redo the floors yet - we have only had it in for a couple of years. Maybe part of the mistake was putting it in the kitchen (our main floor is open concept and the bamboo it throughout). Thanks - yet again
- The problem you describe with your bamboo floors is very typical of bamboo floors. These came out several years ago, exclusively from Asia. They were touted as very durable and not as susceptible to the problems of hardwood. Turns out that's not the case. When I was going to have new hardwood floors installed a couple years ago, I considered getting bamboo. But, my friend who owns a flooring supply store said that he refused to let me buy them through his store, because of the problems people have been having with them. He even refused to install them for people any more. He said about 60% of the bamboo floor installations he had done over the last two years had to be replaced with something else. The problem is with the bamboo itself, as well as the shoddy manufacturing process. Bamboo is a grass, not a wood. So, it's more susceptible to moisture effects (swelling in humid conditions and shrinkage in dry conditions). The bamboo is also put together in layers, like plywood. So, it is susceptible to peeling. It also isn't as scratch-resistant as claimed and does not refinish well. So, do what you can to patch up your existing floor. But, when you're ready to replace the floor, use a real hardwood.
- Q: Seek the right answer
- 1. Bamboo flooring is a small bamboo drying, wood flooring is the overall drying, bamboo flooring moisture treatment of lumber flooring uniform, small shrinkage. 2. Bamboo flooring are fiber arrangement, not easy to produce distortion, wood flooring fiber arrangement is wrong. 3. Wood floor texture pattern and the ruler of the different, 禒 chu gangsters to see the color of the complex is often difficult to take a good pavement effect, bamboo flooring is not the lack of this. 4. Bamboo is the highest hardness of all plants in the world. 5. Bamboo flooring is less afraid of water and dry than wood flooring.
- Q: Which floor contains at least the formaldehyde? Solid wood flooring, laminate flooring, laminate flooring, bamboo flooring which contains at least the formaldehyde.
- In fact, as long as it is in line with national standards can be. But we are the national inspection method is the inspection, choose to import better.
- Q: New home is warm, intends to shop in the bedroom floor, other places floor tiles, I do not know bamboo flooring suitable for use, whether it will be deformed, some people say there will be insects
- It is best to use solid wood flooring, if the future problems, then the trouble it
- Q: And the strength of the ordinary floor that high point?
- Heavy bamboo flooring is much higher than solid wood flooring. Introduce the advantages and disadvantages: 1) stability, bamboo floor shrinkage and expansion than the solid wood flooring. But in the actual durability of bamboo flooring shortcomings are also obvious, one by the impact of sun and wet prone to stratification phenomenon, the second is the southern region, bamboo flooring easy bark beetles, affecting the life of the floor. 2) in the use of comfort, bamboo flooring and solid wood flooring to be significantly better than King Kong board, can be said to be cool in winter and cool. This is mainly due to the low thermal conductivity of wood and bamboo, people no matter what season can be comfortable barefoot walking in the above, which is incomparable than the Diamond plate. 3) from the home of environmental health point of view, bamboo flooring and diamond plate as in the processing of the use of a large number of adhesives, the number of harmful gases on the human body, especially for children more harmful.
- Q: How to break down Guiqiu
- First of all have to know how to install, generally installed the following three: First, keel nail to install. If it is so installed, it is necessary to dismantle it, the basic demolition over, those floors are basically scrapped. Second, with glue installed. Difficulty depends on the quality of glue, huh, huh. Third, tiling. This is a good demolition. Remove the floor from the wall first. The first row of the floor to the wall squeeze, so that with the next floor of the slot completely out. And then use this approach from the edge of a piece of a pick up to OK. If the floor some expansion, and the wall has no gap. That time can only be the edge of a floor destroyed. Violent demolition. Then, and then one by one to pick up.
- Q: In the building materials market to see the bamboo floor, and looks pretty good, do not know how to identify good or bad, know, pointing, thank you!
- Bamboo floor of the inherent quality only in the use to show, but from the surface can also be seen one or two! First, look at the material, good bamboo flooring is selected 4-6 years old bamboo processing, from the surface , fiber bundle clear, bright for the top grade! If dark, very bad, try not to choose! Second, look at precision, to come up with a few pieces of finished plate, (in general, the salesman will give your presentation.) two transverse to the good end, two at the ends of the cross-sandwich, the abutting try, to see the gap which is uniform if fairly uniform, can choose! Third, look nip, can be seen if the cracks on its surface, that there is not that good to go! four, to see whether full paint, light paint leaching paint the floor should be quite full, very uniform flatness is also very good! matt floor will To see if there is no honeymoon, and see the film is not completely covered the floor layer, do not have the floor version of the phenomenon! From the surface that is the same, but also can see the service. is recommended that you go to "love Home Forum" look is not related to the introduction before the professional installation team and so on ... ah buy For more detailed information. When buying more than one option.
- Q: First, my bamboo floors had wax put on them. But now, the floors look like they're all dirty, like stained a bit darker. The color of the dark brown bamboo floor is very dull now. What should I do? Are there any exact bamboo floor cleaning products? I'm not sure if I should use my option of cleaning it with water, if water may damage the wood.Thanks.
- Dish /wash soap will make the floor sticky.,and even if you rinse off it will leave a residue. I would suggest nice warm water and only two teaspoons white vinegar , nice clean towly cloth and rub hard. You would be amazed how much just warm water cleans on its own, i only use warm water on my floors now and change the wash water often. Please try water only first and your floor will eventually be clean anf free from any cleaning soloutions. By the way i discovered this one day when i had run out of any cleaning stuff. My wooden floors look great and without any smears or sticky residue.
