Q: I'm curious to know if the small solar panels on a calculator (ie TI-32) could produce a voltage similar to what is used in a single-use (disposable) camera, approximately 4V.

Q: Hi, I have in my sailboat 2 2 V batteries. I would like to buy solar panel(s) in order to recharge them. As i am in mexico and there is always high sun . i think it is a good idea.Usage of the batteries is very light . I have found 5-2V pannels with 80mA that fit in the sailboat. I want to know if and how i can have like 5 to 0 of them set together to charge the batteries and what other material would i need.also, i would like to know what happend if the pannels only send on 5V in a 2 V battery? Is it still charging but on 40 % of the capacity a 2 v pannel would charge or its just not doing nothing ?
I don't know what you have avilable to you down there, but if you were in the states i'd say go to a camping supply store they have lots of solar options out today. check one link below
Q: i already have solar/gas water heating, but was wondering if getting solar panels for electricity installed was a good idea.
Why of course. Just buying them is the big buzz. Companies are doing thousands if not millions of dollars a month only by selling Solar Panel. I did a little search and I found that it costs 7000$ to install solar panels for an average roof. If you're a hardcore green, then Bon Appétit, I'm not preventing you to buy it. All I'm just saying is that it'll take months if not years to get that money back. It is good for electricity, and I saw it worked on a company building called Better Place, so save the world!
Q: If a solar panel is a .5kW system, what length of time is it putting out that much power? Every hour?
Solar panels are rated under standard test conditions (STC), a certain amount of light at a certain distance, at a certain temperature, etc. A kW, or kilo watt, is 000 watts. So for the amount of time that the sun meets those conditions, the rate of output is 500 watts. An average location has an average of 5 sun hours a day, the total time that you produce the rated output. Watts is a rate, like miles per hour (mph), how fast it is going. Watt hours, or kilo watt hours (kwh) is a quantity, like miles. So if you drive 50 mph for 5 hours, you went 250 miles (50 mph x 5 hours). If you produce .5kw for 5 hours, you have the potential to produce 7.5kwh a day. Multiply that by 30 days in a month, you get 225kwh a month. In reality you will lose about 30% of the rated power from less than ideal weather, system losses, etc., so it's more like 50kwh a month. You can look at your electric bill to see how many kwh you use a month, maybe around 000kwh, and see what percentage of your usage a system like that can power.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on rooftop gardens or green roofs?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on rooftop gardens or green roofs. In fact, combining solar panels with green roofs can provide numerous benefits such as maximizing energy efficiency, reducing heat island effect, and enhancing biodiversity. It's a sustainable and innovative approach to utilize rooftop spaces for both renewable energy generation and environmental conservation.
Q: We have LED at the output of 40 watts and is used for 0 hours giving us 400 Watts-hr of energy consumed.Rechargable batteries needed are 2 V. 400/2 gives us 34 Ampere-hour battery needed. If we want it for 3 days, It would be 34x3=00 Ah. So the battery needed 00 AhNow how do I select the solar panel which can charge this/these batteries? What should be its rating?
Be aware that you cannot discharge the full capacity of a lead-acid battery without destroying the battery. With a normal battery of this type, you would only want to discharge about 20%, so you would need a 70 AH battery bank. For the 3-day requirement, 500 AH. This is still within reason. If you didn't have the 3-day requirement, you might consider going with NiMH batteries. Back to the 500 AH bank, you would usually charge at at least 5% C, or 25 amps. At the 5 volts that you need for charging, this is 375 watts. Possibly you could go as low as 200 watts.
Q: I am thinking of buying a 3w solar panel called the nomad 3 from goal zero. I want to charge 35Wh lithum batteries. I have heard that lithium batteries are temperatmental and without a regulated current things could get ugly.I have a couple of chargers that came with the batteries. One is a 2v car charger and another is 0-240v wall charger.Goal zero sell something called a sherpa 50, which contains rechargeable batteries and an inverster and I think they suggest that I charge my batteries indirectly through the Sherpa 50, however, the sherpa 50 is expensive at $200, and seems to have a small capacity, in addition to being extra weight that i don`t want to carry.Electronics geniuses, you are my only hope.
Lithium batteries do have special charging requirements. I would recommend that you use the 2 volt charger that came with them to keep them happy. Automotive power systems can have voltages as high as 4.5 volts when the engine is running so there's no need to limit the output of the panel to anything less than that. Check with the charger manufacturer to see what it will withstand. Some will work with systems up to 24 volts nominal (up to 29 volts actual) found in larger commercial vehicles such as trucks and busses. If your charger will work with both 2 and 24 volt systems you might not need anything extra to use the unregulated output of the panel. Otherwise I'd recommend a shunt regulator to clamp the output of the panel to no more than 4.5 volts. That way it would dissipate (waste) very little of the panel's power, and even that would only be during those rare times when the panel is producing maximum output. Such a device could be as simple as a high power zener diode, a low power zener coupled with a power transistor, or a precision shunt regulator such as a TL43 coupled with a power transistor. A more complex way would be a to use buck/boost regulator between the panel and your charger. You might gain a slight advantage under low light conditions when the panel isn't putting out much but the overall efficiency could end up worse than the simpler shunt regulator. Under optimum conditions, I would expect it to take a full day for a 3 watt (peak) panel to charge just one of your 35 Wh batteries. Charging an intermediate device such as the Sherpa 50 through its built in charger and then using it to charge your battery through yet another charger would severely cut your overall efficiency. Depending on how long you'll be gone, it might be far more practical, reliable, and economical to just carry (or find a way to be resupplied with) a few additional fully charged 35 Wh batteries. Don
Q: Can solar panels be used to power a waste management facility?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a waste management facility. Solar energy can be harnessed to generate electricity which can be utilized to power the operations of a waste management facility, reducing reliance on traditional energy sources and promoting sustainability.
Q: Is it possible for the everyday person to increase the efficiency of solar panels that they own? If so, how is it done?
There are 3 (simple) ways to increase the efficiency of a solar panel at home - they all work by increasing the amount of light that falls onto it: . Have the solar panel track the sun throughout the day so that it always faces it; 2. Place a lens (larger than the panel) in front of the panel that focuses the light from the sun onto it. 3. Have mirrors around the panel than redirect light from themselves onto the solar panel. (e.g. imagine a satellite dish with the solar panel at the front and the dish being all mirrored.)
Q: The intensity of sunlight at the distance of the Earth's orbit is 380 W/m2. An Earth-orbiting satellite has a solar panel that measures .35 m by 4.86 m, which converts solar energy to electrical energy with an efficiency of 26%. In one hour, how much electrical energy does the panel produce? Assume that the satellite's attitude control jets keep the panel oriented perpendicular to the incoming sunlight.
This is pretty much an exercise in knowing units and dimensional analysis. Watts are in Joules/second. So every second a square with the area(meters^2) of meter^2 receives 380 joules from the sun. In your case the square is the solar panel. So find the area of the solar panel in m^2. If you multiply area times intensity you can see that the meters cancel out and you are left with Watts(J/s). Since you want the Joules received in an hour you again multiply by how many seconds are in an hour. Leaving you with joules. What you have now is the total energy, but your solar panel is only 26% efficient, so just multiply by .26 and you will have your energy.
