Polycrystalline 100W Solar Panel

Q: What are the advantages of using solar panels?
There are several advantages of using solar panels. Firstly, solar panels harness energy from the sun, which is a renewable source of power, making it environmentally friendly. They produce clean energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to a more sustainable future. Solar panels also provide independence from the grid, allowing homeowners to generate their own electricity and potentially save on energy bills. Additionally, solar panels require minimal maintenance, have a long lifespan, and can increase the value of a property.
Q: How do solar panels affect the property's curb appeal?
Solar panels can enhance the curb appeal of a property by providing a modern and sustainable aesthetic. They showcase the homeowner's commitment to renewable energy, which is increasingly valued by prospective buyers.
Q: if car companies install solar panels on cars, like in all the car were the sun can reach that would reduce the consumption of gas in the summer, and might save some energy for winter and if that energy is not enough they can use gas or electricity i think that would be a lot of savings, and less contamination i don't know that is my idea what do you people think?
I have a panel that might be a square foot or so plugged into my cigarette lighter. It will run the radio and help with reducing the amount of time the alternator needs to run, but won't completely run the vehicle. If I had an electric vehicle, I'd want to coat any large surfaces with them. Still wouldn't completely run the vehicle, but every bit would help.
Q: I recently got into solar panels, I have little background in electronics but I have done a little electrical work in the past and just want to make a small 36 cell panel to power a 2v battery that would run my a small tv (9 inch) and PS3 for a few hours every night. I have been looking up on how to do it before I get in over my head and I have a few questions.... After you solder all of the cells together then what? Do you hook all of the rows of cells together somehow? Can you connect them straight to a battery? After you hook to the battery do you hook up a power inverter to get the 2 AC plugs that would be needed? Thanks in advance for any help....
You will have to wire them in such a way that provides the battery with the optimal voltage for it to charge, which on a car 2v battery is around 4v. You said you have some background in electronics so this shouldnt be too difficult. You can connect them straight to the battery yes. Like you said, I believe a power inverter from 2VDC to 0VAC would work just fine. PS3 pulls a lot lot lot of current though so it probably wouldnt last too long. Look up the specs for PS3 and see how many amps it is pulling and purchase your inverter based off of that. I remember trying to run an xbox in my car one time and the inverter I had didnt work because of that. Be careful working with batteries, I had one explode in my face about a month ago.. scariest moment of my life! Good luck!
Q: Can solar panels be installed on water treatment plants or utilities?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on water treatment plants or utilities. In fact, many water treatment plants and utilities are increasingly adopting solar energy systems to reduce their reliance on traditional energy sources and lower their carbon footprint. Solar panels can be installed on the roofs of these facilities or on nearby open spaces to generate clean and renewable electricity to power their operations.
Q: are solar panels just a photodiode?A Photodiode converts light into either current or voltage? Right?
yes. Any semiconductor junction will convert light into electrical energy, just shine a light at an LED (connect LED to voltmeter) and you'll see a small voltage produced (if you configure the meter as an ammeter it will develop a very small current). Solar panels are just VERY large surface photodiodes.
Q: I am planning to run a couple of dc motors on solar current. I have a couple of 450mA 4V, 200mA .5V, 00mA 9V solar panels with me. I need to run a pair of .5A 9V motors. Suggest me a circuit along with other equipments I might require. For your info, I am trying to build a solar powered drone / UAV
I don't think it is enough solar power. Your motor requires .5A x 9V = 3.5 watts. The solar cells are .450A x 4V x 2ea. = 3.6 watts, .2A x .5V = .3 watts, .A x 9V = .9 watts total solar = 4.8 watts. The problem with connecting the cells in series to get the right voltage, like the two 4V cells in series with the .5 volt cell (total 9.5 volts) is that the .5 volt cell limits the maximum current to only 0.2A. If you paralleled that with the 9V cell, you would get 9 volts at 0.2 + 0. = 0.3A, too low to operate the motor at its design current and voltage. The best you could do is put the two 4V cells in series, and in parallel with the 9V cell (a blocking diode might be a good idea, but probably not required for such a small array). That way you get 8 volts at 0.55 amps.
Q: What is the proper diode to use on an 5v 500ma solar panel?
At least a 2 amp diode. rated above the 2 volts that are commonly found on the market. A blocking diode must be able to stop a higher current and voltage than the panel maximum. A diode will work on any voltage and current lower than it rating.
Q: I'm looking into buying solar panels, there are all kinds of ranges of energy output...but my question is, when ti says...say 50 watts of power...does that mean 50 watts a day, an hour, a minute, what?
A 50-watt rating means the panel will produce 50 watts as long as the standard conditions are maintained. So if you had this bright sun and cool temperatures for 6 hours, the panel would deliver 50 x 6 = 900 watt hours, or a little shy of kilowatt-hour. Kilowatt-hours (kWh) is the reading on your electric bill. However, like most advertising, the 50-watt number is not realistic. They assume that the air surrounding the panel is very cold. 25 watts is a better number to use for this size of panel for engineering purposes.
Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of seismic activity?
Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of seismic activity. However, proper installation and design considerations are crucial to ensure their durability and structural integrity. Reinforced mounting systems and flexible connections are typically employed to allow for movement during seismic events and minimize potential damage. Local building codes and regulations should be followed to ensure the safe and reliable use of solar panels in such areas.
