- Q: I'm about to buy one but I don't really know which one is best for my home.
- One will give you enough DC voltage to light a 25 watt light bulb, [ one 45 watt panel is around $400. ] Now if your wanting AC voltage You have to buy a inverter, 5 or 6 deep cycle batteries, a switch Cables to transfer the voltage, a place out side to store the batteries, instalation brackets for the roof A Permit to Install them
- Q: Can solar panels be connected to the grid?
- Yes, solar panels can be connected to the grid. Through a process called "grid-tied" or "grid-connected" solar system, the electricity produced by solar panels can be fed into the existing electrical grid, allowing for seamless integration and the potential to earn credits or receive compensation for excess energy produced.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a pergola or shade structure?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a pergola or shade structure. In fact, installing solar panels on a pergola or shade structure can provide both shade and renewable energy generation, making it a practical and efficient solution for maximizing space and reducing energy costs.
- Q: I am trying to built a circuit that will power two USB ports (both 5V and 0.5 amps) from the output of a solar panel that produces 20V at 0.2 amps. I have a voltage regulator that runs at 5v and 0.5 amps but I can't figure out the best way to boost the current up to 0.5 amps before I incorporate the voltage regulators.
- If you want to power both USB ports at the same times, It might not be possibble. Your solar panel only supplies 2.24 Watts (20V * 0.2A) of power and you need to deliver 2.5 Watts (5V * 0.5A) to the ports. Subtracting any losses from your regulator(s), you will be WAY over your power budget. You will need more of a solar panel or less of a load.
- Q: Do solar panels require a battery backup system?
- No, solar panels do not require a battery backup system. Solar panels can directly convert sunlight into electricity and supply it to the electrical grid or a connected system in real-time. However, for individuals who want to store excess energy produced by the solar panels for use during times when sunlight is not available, a battery backup system can be installed.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of UV radiation?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of UV radiation. In fact, solar panels are designed to withstand UV radiation as they are made with materials that can handle prolonged exposure to sunlight. However, it is important to note that high levels of UV radiation may slightly degrade the efficiency of solar panels over time. Nonetheless, solar panels are still an effective and sustainable energy solution in areas with high UV radiation.
- Q: Dose a solar panel need the entire range or spectrum of sunlight to produce power?
- It's a huge field of study, very important to solar cell development. People are trying to optimize spectral response for sunlight, even for sunlight in specific places. Google solar cell spectral response for many many websites. Most of them are specific to one experiment.
- Q: how to use a motor with solar panel
- A solar panel cannot operate a motor by itself. A typical system operates like this: The solar panel is connected to a charge controller which is connected to a battery which is connected to a motor controller which is connected to the motor. All these components must be compatible with each other. So,in other words, you can't run just any old motor with a solar panel. You can buy a system like an electric gate opener which is solar powered.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a balcony or terrace?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a balcony or terrace as long as there is sufficient sunlight exposure and structural support in place to hold the panels securely.
- Q: I have an off-grid 24volt existing system using 8 x 80 watt 2volt, wired at 24volts, mono solar panels with deep cycle batteries, operating now. I have been given a 240 2volt polly cryst. panel. Can I add this panel to existing panels as above. Thank you, dumb solar man
- Assuming that you have / will upgrade wiring sizes to carry the extra wattage, that the new total wattage resulting from the addition doesn't overload any existing charge controller, diodes and / or inverter you have installed, then paralleling it straight into one of the other 2 volt groups should do nothing but add current to the system. True, it will be somewhat imbalanced, but it will work. Your other options would be to reconfigure everything down to it's native 2 V configuration which will raise current and lower voltage, with the additional panel creating the additional current to raise the wattage or to put it in series with the other 4 panel clusters so that you would get 36 V and additional current to account for the raised wattage. One last approach might be to set it up on another battery bank of it's own (small and at 2 V) to then connect to the same inverter. You'd be getting more power and storage capability that way, sort of a partial backup system, really, that will take some of the load off the other components to help extend their useful lives and get a bit more flexibility into it as well. The choice is yours here. That is all the ways that the system can be connected in, assuming everything in the first sentence checks out;-) It's difficult to make a recommendation without knowing what other components are in use and what the maximum ratings they carry are. Just remember that parallel connections add current and voltage stays the same, series connections add voltage and the current remains the same and you can figure out what to do with this thing to help you if you stay within maximum ratings for the charge controller, diodes and / or inverter involved. Good luck and stay safe!
