- Q: Is light from a light bulb polarized?? How can you tell or how do you know if a type of light is polarized??
- Light from a lightbulb is NOT polarized. You can tell if you get a pair of polaroid sunglasses (or a polarized light filter) and rotate your head from side to side while looking at the lightbulb. That is to say, first tilt your head way to the left and then move your head so it tilts way to the right, looking at the lightbulb the whole time. If the intensity of the bulb appears to go dark at some point, then that would be evidence of polarized light. However, I don't think you will observe such changes in intensity, indicating the light from the bulb is not polarized.

- Either red or blue should show yellow as black. Both are displaced by 2 colours of the spectrum, from yellow. Under yellow it will of course be yellow, under green, probably a yellowish green.

- If they're meant to be aquarium lights, then you shouldn't have to worry.. it's always nice to have some sort of shade for the fish though, like plants, rocks, etc. They can get startled when you turn the lights on after being in the dark. To prevent this, turn on the room light a few minutes before turning on the aquarium light.

- Hi there. To figure out this problem the first thing you need to know is the total time for the traffic light cycle, so add up all the times. 85 seconds is the total time cycle. If you would like to know the probability for the green light, take the amount of time for the green light over the amount of time for the total cycle. So 55/85 is the fraction. You get to simplify for the final answer. If you would like to know the probability for the light not being red, you have to add up the times when the light is not red. So the time for yellow plus the time for green would be 60 seconds. And again set up a fraction for the time not red over the total cycle time. 60/85, and you get to simplify for the final answer. Hope this helps. :)

- Yes, there have been studies that have indicated that white light is better. Specifically, outdoor metal halide lights produce a bluish white light while high pressure sodium produces a yellow light. It takes less light from metal halide to light an area than it does from high pressure sodium because, according to studies, the eye perceives more light in white conditions than in yellow conditions. It's not a matter of which one puts out more light, but what the eye perceives as brighter. This is why you can read a newspaper under a full moon (1 footcandle) which is a white light. All this said, putting white light, like fluorescent, in your room would be more pleasing to the eye than a yellow light, like incandescent.
- Q: What I get is the following:If switch 1 is on light 1, light 2 and light 3 are on. Switches 2 and 3 off.If switch 2 is on light 2 and light 3 are on. - If switch 1 is on then lights one two and three are definitely on no matter what the position of the other switches. Light four MAY be on depending on S3 Your answer is correct. If switch 2 is on then lights two and three are definitely on. And as long as S1 is off L1 will remain off. Your answer is correct. If switch 3 is on then lights 3 and four both must be on. The diode passes current from light 4 to light 3 so your answer is wrong. Note that the circuit is additive. Turning any switch on may turn on extra bulbs but cannot turn off any bulb that is already alight. So switch 2 and 3 together have all lights on except L1 Switch 1 and 3 together have all lights on. Whether or not switch 2 is on.
