- Yes, it can. Now what do you expect out of it? It can reduce your electric bill by some amount. That amount depends on how many solar panels you install and how sunny your days are. You have to pretty much cover a roof to get a substantial electric reduction. There are 2 companies where I live that have installed solar panels and covered most of their roofs with them. They've reduced their electric bill by about 30%. It's expensive to do this. Don't expect a fast pay back. In fact you may save more by using solar heating panels for hot water than by using solar electric panels. I think it's cheaper as well.

In that case, they change when the sun moves, such as behind a cloud, or just changes angle in the sky, or goes out.

- I suspect the voltage is OK but the amount of current the solar cell is capable of delivering is less than the relay coil needs to operate. The current the relay tries to draw overloads the PV. You need to add additional PVs in parallel to operated the relay coil. An alternative is to use a low current draw relay coil or use a transistor switch. Hope this helps, NewtonLaw

- Unfortunately Eileen the panels are bound to fade as its par for the course. Over time much like everything else (from an AC condenser to your knees and hips) everything starts to go south. When did you purchase and install your panels? If this was done within the past few years then something is definitely wrong, and you should have the manufacturer and installer come back and replace the panels....on their dime of course. Is the warranty on your panels still in effect? If so then its definitely something that they have to come back and take care of. There is a company I know of called Sun Electronics that has a 20 year warranty on their products, so if its worth anything you might want to buy your new panels/system from them. The panels around today are more efficient than those of years past, and with the cost coming down due to economies of scale and the tax incentives you might want to consider getting a new system. What you need to know in order to select your solar panel is how much current you will be draining. You can work this out if you know how much power and how long they need to run.
