Q: How does the snow cover get removed from the panels?
Green energy magically makes the snow transparent. The more I learn about solar and wind, particularly selling excess power back to the utility, the less sense it makes. You'll have noticed, perhaps, that there was no way to store the power from the panels for when it's really needed.
Q: Me and my wife just saw an ad on TV about going solar and saw the money we can save every month... any here have solar panels? How much do you save every month on energy bill? Is it true that your energy meter will spin backwards? lol
We just recently had Pursol Solar Systems install some solar panels for our house. We got ours with no money down, found them online, and they happen to be in the same city where we live. Cool thing about switching to renewable energy is that you get tax break... government will actually pay for your solar panels! Also, YES ITS TRUE! You're meter will spin backwards because energy that's being produced that your not using, goes back to your energy provider (like selling it to them during peak hours)....
Q: Are there solar panel systems that I can plug directly into my house to help reduce my electricity bill? If so, are they very expensive? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I wish it was that easy! Maybe it will be soon. But at this time, no, there isn't. And if you have a solar collection system, you have to have a way to store the energy when you're producing more than what you are currently using. That usually involves an expensive battery array. But it's necessary. The power coming directly from the solar panels will be erratic and sending it to the battery array for storage and then use allows for the home to draw a consistent level of power. And this battery system also allows for storage of electricity for use when the sun isn't shining like at night. The system should be set up to use your power first, then go to the grid. It should also allow for distribution to the grid when your system has stored all the power it can and that's when your meter will run backwards and the power company will be paying you! There are a lot of federal and state income tax rebates for alternative energy installation costs. Check out what Oregon might toss into the package along with the Feds and see where you might come out.
Q: I have created a solar setup in my shed i have 2x.5w solar panels i am hoping to charge my 55ah car battery how long would it take to charge the battery and how many watts could i used a day
Quite a while. I am assuming you are using 2 volts as your buss power. The small panels were intended as a float charge for batteries to keep them from discharging over a period of time. 3 Watts means only /4 Amp. Normally when I do slow charging of batteries, I am using right around amp, and that takes about a week to bring up a battery that was discharged past 80 percent capacity. When you factor in losses from corrosion, battery self discharge, and loose connections, you will likely want to add more panels. using your 55Amp/hour battery, a amp charger running constant in a perfect world would take 55 hours. Real world, probably closer to 64 to 72 hours. That for simplicity is 5 Watts constant charge power. Now you are using /5 of that with your current setup. so 5 times longer, whichh puts you in the 300 hour range of real world, or 220 hours of perfect world. This time of year, you may have about 8 hours worth of charging light, which puts you at close to a month. Don't fret. If you are using it for lighting in a shed, Power LEDs and tethering some of the inexpensive LED lights to the 2 volt source will give you plenty of light for a very long time, the panels will help some, but you will likely need to put the batteries on a charger, or you can build a gas powered 2 volt generator easily enough. Charge it up only when needed.
Q: Do solar panels require direct sunlight to work?
No, solar panels do not require direct sunlight to work. They can still generate electricity from indirect sunlight or even on cloudy days.
Q: Are solar panels suitable for all types of roofs?
Solar panels are suitable for most types of roofs, including flat, sloped, and curved roofs. However, the suitability of solar panels depends on factors like the roof's orientation, angle, shading, and structural integrity. It is essential to consult with a solar panel installer or a professional to determine the suitability of solar panels for a specific roof.
Q: I'm wondering if the cost of the panels and equipment have come down enough to make them viable in areas like Seattle or Vancuver for example.
Take okorder /.. You need to keep in mind that as long as you are renting your electric from the public utility you are doing just that and renting. You can resale the solar electric system if you move or if you just want to sale it and get some of your money back if not 20 % extra. Then all the years you used the system was all free electric. So it is already viable as you put it. Anything other then buying a system would not be. Here is a thought. The housing market slumped and if you paid 50K for your home it is now only worth if you can even sale it about 00K. Not worth the money but people are still buying homes even if they are not worth what they are being sold for. And then the cars and trucks people buy will never pay for them selfs but people still buy them and spend extra the more wasteful the car is. So why does solar have to pay for it's self or prove it's self? It has many times over but because you can't drive a solar panel drunk and party out in the bars with it is is not worth the money. I guess the is just being human and a double standard. What about the big up front cost of solar? I remember a 20% up front cost when I bought my home and my car and it is the same 20% or less for a solar loan. Plus the value of solar is going up not down like with homes and a car is not worth but half what you paid for it the minute you drive it off the car lot. I can only see good from solar un like other things we buy.
Q: What is the most affordable, yet highest watt solar panels available?
Those two requests are somewhat at odds with each other. Trina and Suntech make panels that are generally good value. You can search the web and find your best price. If this is for something that does not need to last long, you could get amorphous panels and save some money. But they will degrade quickly in a few months, then slowly over a few years.
Q: How do solar panels affect the insurance premiums of a property?
Solar panels can potentially affect insurance premiums of a property. While it varies depending on the insurance provider and region, installing solar panels may increase the overall value of a property, which could result in a higher replacement cost in case of damage or loss. However, some insurance companies offer specialized policies or discounts for homes with solar panels due to their positive impact on energy efficiency and reduced environmental risks. It is best to consult with insurance providers to understand their specific policies and how solar panels may impact premiums.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a balcony or terrace?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a balcony or terrace as long as there is sufficient sunlight exposure and structural support in place to hold the panels securely.
