Q: I want to know how you can store energy using a solar panel. The energy stored needs to be stored so that a light or laptop charger can plug in to it.

Q: Does the new horizons has a solar panel for it power resources instead using nuclear generator?
No solar panel, and for the reason you stated - it is so far from the Sun that a solar panel would be of little use (and a lot of extra weight) at the distances where the primary part of the mission was being performed. The power source is called an RTG. We can think of it as similar to a nuclear-powered battery or a miniature nuclear power plant. As far as I know it is not intended to reach any other star. If it does, it's power will have long since depleted - and it would take thousands of years at its current speed to reach even the closest star. Closest star: Proxima Centauri, slightly more than 4 light years away. Current speed of New Horizons relative to the Sun: 4.52 km/s That's 0.000048 of the speed of light. It would take more than 20,000 years to reach Proxima Centauri *if* it were heading in that direction (which it is not).

The sun is irradiated on the semiconductor p-n junction to form a new hole-electron pair. Under the action of the p-n junction electric field, the holes flow from the n region to the p region. Q: I want to install a solar panel system and our power grid can't work in reverse(so it get its electricity from us). My question is how do you prevent electricity from our panel to go to the grid without disconnecting the grid? If you are grid-tied, then a standard solar electric system will always feed back into the grid if you are not utilizing more power in your home than is being generated by the solar panels and inverter system. It is possible that a grid isolation device designed to prevent direct back feeding is available, but haven't heard of one in common use. New laws in most areas of the US are now mandating that utilities allow grid-tied alternative energy systems. Double-check you local laws. Sometimes you can't take the utilities word for truth--most will automatically say 'no' and will only relent when you show up with the law in hand. Unfortunately, some utilities have figured out another way to shut down alternative energy pioneers--they demand multimillion dollar insurance policies covering damage that their equipment could sustain from your little PV system. Technically, they are still in compliance with the law, they just make it impossible for a homeowner to meet their requirements. If you are getting the runaround, go to your state representative for help. It's amazing how contrite those utility people can be when a state senator (or even US Senator) has just sent a letter asking them why they are stonewalling a law-abiding and well-meaning citizen. Q: I have a question about solar panels. What are the benefits of this system if I installed in my home. for example i know it produces electricity but does it do anything else? How many panel would you guys think I would need for 2000 sq ft. do you know if it produces hot water? Thanks for your help
Grid-tied solar systems in the U.S. run at least $8/watt installed. To completely run a 2,000 sq ft home, you'd need about 50 amps service from solar -- both 20 volts and 240 volts. Not very practical. Panels are expensive, but the BOS (balance of system) is as well. You need mounts to bolt the panels to the roof (same thing if ground mounted). Cable, wire, and connectors will run several hundred dollars. A couple of grid-tie inverters in the range of 4,000 watts each will cost you several $6,000 to $8,000, plus sub panels, combiner boxes, breakers, disconnects, charge controls, and batteries, among other things. You'd likely need 5 to 24 panels, depending on too many factors to mention here. You'd need at least 8 batteries, likely 2 volt ones, probably more if you want to run the entire home from solar. Solar (or wind) systems have to be installed in the U.S. by state licensed installers, and there are not many of those yet. And if you grid-tie the system, you'll need to put an interconnection agreement in place with your local utility, plus the utility will have requirements on the net-metering and installation of a switch they can use to turn your solar system off from the grid. And this would not produce hot water in the way you are thinking. If you have an electric hot water heater now, the solar system could help run that, just like the rest of your home. Hot water from solar and electricity from solar are two completely different technologies.
Q: Heard you can put solar panels on laptops Anyone know if it can work on a Dell mini 0v? I've seen he USB slot solar pana but can someone tell me where to gt these?
That strikes me as completely impractical for most circumstances. The power output of your mains adapter is 30W and to do that you are looking at at least five or six square feet of solar panels costing in the region of $600 even from a surplus supplier I know. You could do it cheaper (maybe $50 on panels) but then you would be looking a more primitive panels and need perhaps thirty square feet of solar panels. This is a completely different exercise to creating a solar powered USB charger - the power requirement is a lot higher. Astronomy and space?
Q: Why is it nessicary, with today's economy in the postion it's currently in, to use renewable energy sources; like solar panels?
They are not necessary, and you don't have to use them. However, the benefit of using solar panels is that you can make your own electricity at no cost. Yeah, of course, you need to spend some cash to build those panels, but once they are there, they will work like a charm, giving you free power.

You can attempt to install your own solar panels...just do the homework first! I suggest looking at ways to decrease your overall energy consumption first even if installing solar panels. Doing this will save on the amount of panels you need. Have included a reference that may be of use to you.
