- Q: What causes light to refract

- Your face, technically speaking, actually doesshine but shining is a subjective term. It's in the amount of light coming at you that determines whether or not you perceive it as so. A light bulb produces a large amount of light in a small area; the sun produces copious amount of it, and the moon reflects a sizable amount as well. Your face reflects only a relatively small amount of the ambient light so it doesn't appear as something shining.

- There are many reasons why light bulbs burn out prematurely. We have experienced this in our lamp shop for many decades. When this happens repeatedly there are several things to consider in addition to the valid ones which were covered in Dave's answer. Here are a few others to consider arranged by how frequent they might occur. 1- If the light bulb is not securely screwed into the socket, it could cause an electrical short which will burn out the bulb quickly. We see this problem very regularly. 2- If a small voltage spike is the problem, you may solve this problem by purchasing higher voltage bulbs (not higher wattage). In the USA, many standard light bulbs are rated 110-120 volts. A heavier duty bulb rated 130 volts may last longer. 3- There may be a voltage spike in your electrical circuit. A small voltage spike is very common and expected. But abnormal spikes do happen and they will blow out light bulbs. This is a job for a certified electrician who can conduct tests to determine if this may be the culprit. Good luck with your fixture.
- Q: If I ran a yellow light with a red light camera, with the light turning red after I pass the line as yellow.. will the camera flash?
- The red light cameras are not supposed to flash if the front of your car enters the intersection when the light is yellow. Where is the entry point of the intersection? It is supposed to be the stop line. However, a lot of municipalities move the red light camera sensor into the intersection--to the curb line of the cross street. The curb may be several feet beyond the stop line. Of course, this is illegal . . . but municipalities do it to make money. It is possible to cross over the stop line while the light is yellow, have the light turn red, and then you pass over the sensor and get the big flash.

Once you reach the speed of light no more light comes out of your headlights. But you wouldn't notice as your thinking, which also has to happen over time wouldn't occur.

- The force of electrical current flows back and forth 60 times in a second or 60 hertz. With this a pressure builds, the pressure is called amps. In a common home the most common circuit protection is at 15 amps. The pressure bleeds and can cause some weird things or even dangerous fires. So a grounding wire bare is added to catch this bleeding effect and ground it out to prevent or reduce fire hazards. In many light fixtures incandescent light bulbs are used. Any electrical imbalance can cause them to flicker or even blink off in some cases. A messy power supply will do this in many cases. This could be related to poor grounding of the electrical wiring. Many in light fixtures do not have a grounding wire hook up just hot and neutral. So they can blink with a change in current pressure to the lights. Some say ghosts do it. I don't get to talk to many ghosts but I do replace many old light fixtures and the blinking stops in many cases when I am done. Try asking and electrical handy man to look at the fixture and any switches to light. You may just need a new one. The pressure can wear out the fixtures over time and outlets and switches should be changed out once every 5 to 10 years. And the metal contacts on fixtures or the entire fixture every 10 to 20 depending on how it was made. The handy man should be able to tell you for certain. But as for ghosts, looking for trouble often finds you in it. Reading your bible is fine but staying away from trouble of the ghostly kind is always recommended. Let the dead be and forget their names.
