- Q: i check the diodes in the backside of solar panels it reads out to be 0.433 each give me the same result but i was amazed when i check out the last two one which on clamp meter screen give me ''0L'' what this means? is that diode have malfunctions??is this reasons that the output of solar has been decreased?
- First of all, make sure that you are taking readings in the dark (with the solar panel indoors and covered). 0.433 is a reasonable forward voltage for a Schottky diode. Ideally, it diode should read open one way (possibly OL for your meter), and 0.4 the other way. If it's reading OL both ways, the diode is bad. You can either unsolder it or cut it out and verify that it is bad.
- Q: Is it really necessary to make solar panels that expensive?
- it cost less then $000. to make a car if you add all the cost of the material the average car made in the USA is sold for 30,000. before the company make a profit they need to sell 6 cars to pay for the labor. With a solar panel system it cost depending on you kilowatt use then they figure out the life expectancy of the unit what your monthly ele bill would be and that is what it cost for your system and that is with out the carrier charge from your power company who charge you for both when you use or sell power to the grid and most of the systems sold are sold to tie into the grid. as far as how much does it cost to make a solar panel The reason they give the price per watt is that is how they charge to sell them The process is not as complicated as they make it The high cost is in the so called shortage in silicon they claim there is a shortage of the type of silicon used in making the chips but last I heard silicon is just sand and it is the eight most common element on the planet it is the same process used to make computer chips which you can by now for around a dozen for a penny put that does chips togethet and you have one of the around 00 chips in a solar panel so a solar panel costcost about fifty bucks to make solar panel 00 watt sells for around $50. for a starter kit they sell them 200 percent mark up minimum the big cost is in the installation .
- Q: please help me
- Solar okorder /
- Q: what is the average cost, for a single family home, to install solar panels? I live in CA.
- Just to be sure - when you say solar panels - are you thinking of hot water or electricity? For electrical power the system must photovoltaic.
- Q: so...do you think an online store dedicated to selling solar panels/systems will be a good business idea? Since green energy is the 'hottest' growing business area recently with usage growing about 30% per annum and investors putting all their money into solar energy, wind farms, biofuel, etc. I think when you sell solar systems online this will be the most appealing business model to the end customer...especially if you offer free installation on orders of say $000.
- It's that offering installation that is the problem. Do you have the ability to arrange contractors to install where ever the customer may be? The online store model works best on a drop ship model where once you've shipped the parcel, you're done. Online selling of solar panels would be basically to the DIY crowd and as you've said, most people don't have the skills nor the enthusiasm to install them. The current price per watt installed is about $0 a watt. $ per watt are the organic dye and film solar panels which are horrendously inefficient and require much more square footage and that $ per watt price is before installation. Currently solar depends a lot on government subsidies to be worthwhile. The various green energy technologies (both solar and wind) lack the economics to be anything other than greenwashing and often if you consider the total impact to the environment, they are often worse than fossil fuels and even if the environmental impact of their manufacture is neglected, it's hard to compete with fossil fuels where nature has done all the work of storing solar energy in a convenient hydrocarbon form. Of course, there's still money to be made off people's ignorance. You've already asked this question several times, apparently you're not satisfied with any answers that are counter to your hopes. Why don't you try it and see how far you'll get.
- Q: Is there a small solar panel system that I can put in my bedroom window and charge my phone and run an alarm clock off of? Or one I can run a microwave off of?
- Yeah they have them to charge phones but to use a microwave you would have to use one to charge a 2 volt battery with them from there an inverter . You could probably get a system like that for around $50 or so off OKorder . Don't get me wrong solar panels do cost allot but for what you want it for just to run a microwave isn't going to cost you all that much . Just go to OKorder and look for solar phone charger and get an idea of what you want . Thumb up for Sam above me . People just think everything is expensive because they put no effort in there shopping .
- Q: I want to get definate instructions on how to make the components and convert my home to solar energy. I know I could hire some one to do this, but frankly I do not have the funds at my disposal to do it. I thought if I could find detailed instuctions I could slowly do it myself (with my husband's help). I have looked into loans for this purpose to no avail. Finding the information on the net could take forever! If anyone knows a site that would give me the information or even a hint on how to start? Any help will be appreciated, but if you have any good links to good information please share them with me..Thanks
- Typical solar panels like Engineer describes require a lot of space. A single panel may only light a single light bulb. You may want to look into a different way of generating electricity with solar, it doesn't use a cell to turn the sunlight into electricity, instead it uses mirrors to focus the sunlight onto a pipe between the mirrors. The heat causes water or another liquid in the pipe to boil and the steam created turns a turbine that produces the electricity. It has the potential to be less high-tech, more forgiving of minor design and structural problems and more affordable. I don't know of any system that is privately available but you can get more info at the link below. They're building a full test facility in Nevada right now. You could presumably cobble something like this up on your own.
- Q: Heard you can put solar panels on laptops Anyone know if it can work on a Dell mini 0v? I've seen he USB slot solar pana but can someone tell me where to gt these?
- That strikes me as completely impractical for most circumstances. The power output of your mains adapter is 30W and to do that you are looking at at least five or six square feet of solar panels costing in the region of $600 even from a surplus supplier I know. You could do it cheaper (maybe $50 on panels) but then you would be looking a more primitive panels and need perhaps thirty square feet of solar panels. This is a completely different exercise to creating a solar powered USB charger - the power requirement is a lot higher. Astronomy and space?
- Q: how would you build a solar panel
- As a sandwich. Glass Space /4 inch Glass Space with copper radiator painted flat black. Box made of wood. with the inside painted black. Insulate the back side. Use water with RV antifreese. Circulate water through with a small pump. Face it toward the sun. Thermal water solar Panel.
- Q: I just connected my 5 Watt 2V solar panel directly to my 300 Watt 2 inverter. It worked for about 2 minutes then it popped (sparks, smoke etc)! What the hell did I do wrong? I thought the solar panel was 2 volts? Can someone with experience with these things help me out?
- There okorder / Why pay thousands of dollars for solar energy ($27,000 average cost) when you can build your own solar panel system for just a fraction of the retail cost. You can build a single solar panel or you can build an entire array of panels to power your whole house. Some people are saving 50% on their power bill, some people are reducing their bill to nothing. But what’s most impressive is that just by following these instructions some are even making the power company pay them!
