Check with your local building division before you take on any project. While I repair sewer pipe all the time, I am not a plumber but have nothing but respect for this Profession. It requires an intensive 4 hour test after you prove from previous employers you have a minimum of 6 years experience. Most sewer repair companies work outside the shell of the house unless they have a Master Plumber on staff to supervise the work. The reason is SAFETY. Besides contaminents that live in sewage, sewer gas is a real concern. If you are allowed to do the work, the building division has UPC or IPC code books that detail how you must do the work. They can share that information with you. Now, it may be possible to burst the pipe meaning a new pipe can be pulled through the old one. Usually though, it requires a saw cut and a jack hammer to remove the concrete, with repairs made to the broken section. Saw cut is used to keep damage to surrounding concrete at a minimum especially if you have supports anywhere close by. Any removal of structural concrete and you must consult the building division. Safety again, you don't want to bring the house down around your head. You can connect as it is currently connected. Home Depot has most of the fittings and cement you need but again, check to see that local building codes haven't been updated to a new type of fitting. Use the recommended bedding per the code. It might need to be 3/4 rock or Pea Gravel. Bed it per the depth prescribed in the code. I'm not saying you can't do the work but get the facts before you attempt this repair on your own. Your building division is full of professionals and they work for you. If they say no, there is a reason usually. Find out why and then do the work correctly.
