- You apparently have not live usd in this house for too long a time, at least not long enough to have seen this wash basin installed. I would surmise that the tube was most likely used to fill some container that had a fairly small neck opening, like a water bottle. It does seem odd that the tube and the fixture would both be active at the same time without a shut off on the tube. ?? Strange things, but I'm sure whoever had it put there had a good reason.
