My car broke down yesterday and is waiting to be towed to the mechanic (2000 Dodge Neon). I'm pretty sure the Timing Belt broke, but my water pump was broken in the process and leaked out lots of water. Would the timing belt break the water pump when it snapped? Or does the broken water pump lead us to a different conclusion? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.Also I was reading online today about interference engines, but couldn't find a list to verify if I have one of those or not. Anyone know? Thanks!

I need to replace a water pump on a '95 3100 Pontiac Grand Am and am looking for a guide how to do it. Also, do I need to flush out the coolant or can I just put a pan underneath the water pump and let the coolant pour out when I take the water pump off? Thanks.

no you need to drain the anti-freeze out of the radiator. after your done you can flush it or you don,t have to. take the belt off, take the bolts out, clean the surface on the engine, put a new gasket on the new pump, put some sealer on the gasket ( both sides) place the pump on the engine, put the bolts back in and tighten them evenly, put the anti-freeze back in, put the belt back on, start it up and check for leaks.

Power went out of my house and we just had it restored, though now the water is no longer running. We called the people who installed our pump and they told us they would need to dig up the well which is going to cost $1500. However i remember a time before where this happened and all we needed to was reset the switch. Do you think these ppl are trying to get me for my money? the first thing to do is make sure your switch contacts are closed...if they are not and the switch has a handle on the side of it, lift up the handle until the contacts close....once the pump starts working and builds up 20 or 30 pounds pressure it will start working the way it is suppose to ...you would only need to dig up the well and pull the pump as a last resort...and since the pump was working before the power went out..Most likely all you need to do is figure out how to start it...if it is a jet pump (above ground pump) then all you might need to do is prime it to get it started again.....so your pump is a jet pump ?? how much water did they use to try to prime it with??it takes one gallon for every ten feet of pipe in the well.....if your pump is in the well it does not have to be primed...

First I need to take off the belt, remove power steering pump, remove water pump bolts (the bolts are various length), remove water pump pulley (from old pump), install pulley on new pump, install new pump (with gasket and bolts in the right holes), install power steering pump, install belt. Is this the correct order? Can somebody throw any tips at me (somebody who has done it on this vehicle). It's a 2001 WJ with a 4L.

The surface on the engine block is not cleaned properly and is not allowing the new gasket to seal correctly. The other possibility is you have a defective replacement pump. This does sometime occure with parts from the national chains. inspect it closely to make sure the casing is not cracked if it is you need to take it back and get another one.

My car is over heating.the hose that goes to the thermostat is swollen.i wanted to open the radiator to release the pressure but it was too hot ,and too much pressure. is this a sign that the water pump is good?

First let me say the GOOD LORD was watching over you. You NEVER NEVER NEVER open a radiator cap when it is hot. Had a friend do that and he now has scars on his chest where the water sculled him. Yes it is working. What you need to do is change the thermostat. But please wait until the engine is cool to the touch.

It is a 110 shallow well pump for my water source to the house.

Does it have a resevour that it pumps to? If so, when it get full it will shut off, and when the water level gets low, it comes on.
