Q:I‘m having a problem with my a/c system. the interior lights on the controls no longer come on, and many things don‘t work anymore. the fan comes on blows air, but it‘s no longer heated. and the ducts don‘t move either, for when you want the air from the outside vs inside air circulation. everything was fine yesterday until the thermostat housing was attempted to be taken off.the last bolt wouldn‘t come off. and the housing has shifted a bit from its original place, and wont be budged back. could this have anything to do with it. i checked all fuses and they work fine. any solutions?
If you want heat, it's carried by the engine coolant. If the engine thermostat housing isn't closed tight, the coolant will all leak out and not carry heat anywhere- the heater, the radiator- not anywhere, and it will stay where you don't want too much of it- in the engine. The engine will overheat very quickly without coolant in it and be damaged badly. The interior heating ducts are controlled, often, by engine vacuum carried by little hoses and some may have gotten knocked loose. Some cars do this wth cables and levers instead of vacuum. You need to look in a good auto repair manual like Chiltons and see where everything related to heating and cooling belongs and make sure it's still there. But before you try to start the engine, fix the thermostat housing. Get a friend who knows about these things to help you and don't let it get dark before you finish working. Since the heater lights don't come on anymore, find the wire that got knocked off and plug it back. How do bolts on an engine near a thermostat get stuck? Maybe it's rusted in place, or stuck with block sealer that was used to stop a leak. Leak stop with sodium silicate will do that, and that's about the best kind of sealer, but the problems it can cause are what you have. I hope you never have to take the head off- some of the head bolts might be stuck too and they are extremely hard- I wouldn't want to have to try and drill out one, and you'd need a diamond drill, or at least carbide. If you break the thermostat bolt, you'll have to drill it out and tap new threads in the hole so a new bolt will go in and hold. That simple job got very complicated, didn't it.

Depends on what is wrong with it. Sort of hard to tell you what it may be without knowing what DTC is set in the vehicle. Either go to auto parts stores let them scan it if they can or dealership let them fix it. Check Engine Light on?

Q:ok so recently my car will not hold a charge. i have to jump start it every morning before work. they tested it at auto zone and said the battery tested ok and the alternator was over charging (140 i think amps?) but after completely replacing the alternator its still doing it. its fine if im driving but when i hit my brakes or turn on my turn signal it drains the battery really fast and i have to floor it to charge back up. my bright light completely kill the car as soon as i hit the switch. and my dome lights keep staying oni cant get them offalso when i hit my turn signal all the lights in the car flash with them. today we found a slice in the battery cable. it was pretty bad but we fixed it as best as we could and taped it tightly. any suggestions as to what this could be? i deliver pizzas and need a decent running car. its a 1996 pontiac bonneville seit has the 3800 if that matters. i wasted money on the alternator so i dont want to buy a new bat unless i know thats it

Q:I have a 1995 Chevrolet c1500 with the 5.7L engine. Today I started my truck, with no problems ran perfectly. Drove to the gas station, got gas, then restarted my truck and all of the sudden it was at a higher idle around 1100 rpms, the check engine light came on and when I shifted to drive, the tires squealed a little. When driving I noticed it was hesitating to shift and shifted kind of roughly when it did finally shift. I have kept up with maintenance and take the best possible care of it. Like I said it just randomly started acting up when i restarted it after about 5 minutes. Any idea of what could cause this?
Get the OBD 1 code reader there cheap as hell now The speed sensor could be causing g the shift issue You could have a bad injector too Get the code reader Its OBD 1 not 2 the scanner is cheap or look on line there is a way to use a volt meter to get the codes i forgot exactly how but i do remember it was very easy to do good luck

I don't think I have ever heard of stainless steel water pipes before except in special conditions like acid or something caustic. Copper is of course the pipes of choice or PVC which have special conditions also. They are cheaper and easier to put in but, I'll stand with copper every time.
Q:I have a 2002 Honda Civic sedan with 94K miles on it. Yesterday the engine malfunction light came on. I consulted the owner‘s manual and it said to first check the gas fill cap. I did that and re-tightened it, but the light did not go out. Then it added that if that didn‘t fix the problem it was likely something wrong with the emission system. I wanted to know if the engine malfunction light on would have created a code that can be read and if that is the same thing as check engine light on other cars. I called the auto dealer today and they said they charge $100 just to check the code and depending what it is, if they could even fix it or would have the parts, if needed. Someone at work suggested I take it to Advance Auto since they will check the codes for free. Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Two companies make the flexible pipe, they are QEST and PEX. I prefer PEX because you crimp the pipe on with a brass ring and it is guaranteed not to freeze bust or break for 100 yrs. QEST uses slide on hand tighten fittings, and they may or may not work well. I just don't trust something that is hand tightened to stay tightened when the pipe expands from heating and shrinks from cooling I prefer the crimped brass ring, then I know it is not going to leak. Either works very well when repairing older galvanized pipe. Just cut the galvanized pipe, unscrew it from the joint one both ends, screw in a Pex fitting, slide a brass ring over the pex pipe and slide the pipe onto the fitting and crimp it. Unroll the pipe to the other end, cut it, slide a brass ring on it, slide the pipe onto the fitting on that end and crimp the ring.
