- Green board is sheet rock its just moisture resistant and I would also recommend it for a basement. $24 a sheet for labor only sounds really over priced. 10 years ago when I was doing construction the going commercial rate was $32 for a 4X8 sheet including the rock, screws, bead, and mudding. for an 800 sq ft find a carpenter and see if they will hang it as a side job. usually if you supply all the materials they will do it really cheap. if you cant then hire someone that will come in hang and finish the rock. make sure that you have finished walls ready for primer and paint. with the moisture thats usually in basements i wouldn't recommend wall paper...

- Yes, we did this in our basement. I would just caution, to try and find lighter tongue and groove. They also have dropped ceiling tiles now that you can attach directly to the ceiling without the metal grids. I saw one just recently at a hardware store (in Canada) that looked exactly like our tongue and groove wooden ceiling. GOOD LUCK>
- Q:I am in the process of finishing a basement ceiling. I would prefer to use drywall (I like the look, and I have a lot of sheets of drywall already) but I want to be able to access above the ceiling if I ever need to run wires or anything. Could I install a drop ceiling grid, and then cut drywall panels 2'x4', prime and paint them, and use them in the drop ceiling? It would save me from having to buy drop ceiling panels. My main concern is the weight - I think it would be substantially heavier than normal drop ceiling panels.

Everywhere I was touching the grid. My arms were cherry red from the elbows down for awhile. 2 weeks later my arms still tingle and my wrists have a terrible burning pain every couple of days. It was a very religious experience. I did kick the electrician off the job. My question is did the current go across my chest or through my heart from one arm to the other and could it have killed me if I hadn't fallen from the ladder. I guess I'm lucky I'm 6'4 and 250 lbs. I feel lucky anyway.
