It's a common practice experienced riders use to slow down. It's called engine braking Let off the gas and let the compression of the engine force the bike to slow down. Then pull in the clutch, down shift to the next lower gear and let the clutch out. Once again, do not accelerate and let the engine slow you down. Pull in the clutch, down shift and let out the clutch - let the engine's compression slow you down. Continue this procedure until you get to first gear, hold in the clutch and come to a complete stop with the brakes. You can use the brakes during this procedure to slow/stop faster. Usually only the front brake is required, because the engine is slowing down the rear wheel. If the engine seems like it wants to stall, downshift to the next lower gear. Every time you let out the clutch in the next lower gear, let it out slowly. You might be traveling at a much faster speed than the engine can handel. If that is the case, twist the throttle a little so the rear wheel doesn't lock up because of the engine's compression. Practice this procedure at slow speeds, until you get the knack of it.
Q:I am new to the whole motorcycle thing and I think the brake fluid is starting to look dirty. My uncle told me that he uses a turkey baster and sucks it out of the resiovor on the handle bar but I do not know if that is correct or not. Any help would be appreciated.

The thing you need to do is downshift into second and let the engine slow you down, you will then be able to accelerate thru the turn in second gear. You should probably get into a motorcycle rider class before you go riding in the city, these are often offered through a larger motorcycle dealership. Remember, you, as the rider, must drive for everyone else on the road, as you have the most to lose in a wreck with another vehicle. Do yourself a favor and stay away from other traffic while learning to ride.
Q:I bought a mini motorcycle for my son, I lost the manual so I dont know how to staert it. It has a pull cord that husband can start it with, but it also has a button for electric start. I have a feeling Im supposed to do something while holding the button to make it start Im just not sure what. Also underneath the bike there is a thing that slides up and down, I dont know if it needs to be up or down to start, I guess its the throttle?! Please help its a SST mini motorcycle. My husband is working out of town, so I need t start it myself.
The on off switch has to be ON, brake pulled in, and if it has a choke, pull it out, and choke the carb when starting. I dont know if it has a key either, some do.turn the key on if it does.

well the front brake is at least 70 percent of your stopping power. Funny thing is I ride an olschool chopper with NO front brake and have no problem stopping. However if you only use the rear brake DO NOT lock it up because the rear of the bike will slide out to the right! Im working on a dual disk rear brake and that will solve this problem and make me a bunch of money.

Q:So I‘m taking a couple of private lessons before i take the MSF, I‘m having trouble stopping the bike smoothly from 2nd gear. The instructor told me to brake first and then clutch + downshift, Is it possible to just brake and clutch, then downshift after I‘m stopped?
Pipe and fittings should be polished first (000 steel wool works good). After the complete joint surface (both pieces) is prepared, DO NOT TOUCH those surfaces then apply your flux paste preheat the joint at a point away from edge of the joint. The heated area will 'draw' the solder in and flow around the joint surface you prepared. Flux in welding/soldering breaks down the oxides (rust) making uniform flow of the bonding agent. It does not clean grease or oils, which is why you never touch a freshly polished joint.even finger oils can fouls up an otherwise tidy joining procedure.

Anything is possible, but it would probably cost you more than it's worth. Just go buy a bike with ABS.
