Q:Hello! I have a 2001 Honda Shadow Ace (VT750CD). My brakes work but need new pads. The front wheel is already off from something else I was doing. The problem is that the caliper pistons are sticking out a little bit, maybe 1/4 inch. With the new pads installed, there isn‘t enough room for the rotor to go inbetween so I need to push the pistons in some but I can‘t just push them in. Is there a problem with the pistons? While I have everything removed, I might as well clean the caliper. Can someone please explain the steps? Should I:Unbolt caliperPump brake until pistons begin to come out moreGrip and remove pistonsClean the bore and sand pistonsPut waterproof brake grease on pistons before installing againPush them all the way in flush before installing new brake pads???Should I remove the dust seals/o-rings before cleaning the bore? Any help is very much appreciated.
Just like on a car, you will need to remove the master cylinder cover, and if you can't push the piston back in by hand, then use a c-clamp to carefully move it back in. Try to center it as much as possible on the piston (use a flat bar or something if necessary).
Q:I've never ridden a motorcycle / driven a manual car, and i've got a few questions. I'm going to take an MSF course before I get my license, so don't be all noob.1) When stopped, is it ok to leave the clutch in and be in 1st gear or must you shift to neutral to not burn out the clutch?2) In an automatic car, I can be at a stop sign in drive with just the brake pushed in. I'm guessing you can't do that with manual in 1st?3) I've heard that when shiftings from N to 1st, you have to let out the clutch slowly, so how slow does this have to be compared to just dropping the clutch? Finally, what can I do to amuse myself before I can get my license? (I'm 15). I'm totally obsessed with motorcycles and I can't wait any longer!!Thanks!
1. When stopped it's okay to leave it in first gear, it's actually what your supposed to do, if someone were to come up and was about to rear end you and your in first you can give it gas and get out of the way. 2. If you want to stay in first at a light you have to keep the clutch pulled in, if you let the clutch out you'll learch forward and the bike will die. 3. As for letting the clutch out you have to do it slowly or you'll pop the clutch and the front wheel may come up on you if you have a powerful bike. All bikes are different so any time you ride a new bike learn where the clutch engages before you ride. By engages I mean slowly let out the clutch, when the bike slowly starts moving forward thats where it engages. A few other things, I had a hard time when first riding understanding how the gears were set up. I thought 5 gears meant 5 different levels like on a car your stick goes to five different areas. With a bike its more like a wratchet, when you kick up and down gears the pedal stays in the same place it just clicks into different gears. Only other thing I can say is be safe. I kind of don't think someone 16 shoudl be riding a bike honestly. When your 16 your just learning the rules of the road and how to drive so adding a motorcycle into that combination could make things trickier. Plus most 16 years olds will have at least some kind of minor accident or slip up and in a car if you hit a curb or make a small mistake no big deal but on a bike it could kill you. Be careful and have fun.
Q:I‘ve never driven one before, and I don‘t know anyone who drives one. Is there a moderately-priced place to learn in the Virginia Beach area?
in case you are able to experience a motorbike a vehicle is hassle-free. Sorta like a vehicle is an airplane yet a motorbike is a helicopter. It takes extra skill to experience a motorbike. although a vehicle is extra substantial than a motorbike (yet no longer as exciting) because it retains you from the climate aspects. See video under for extra preparation
Q:What are semi metallic brakes and how do they differ from others?
Screw metallic go to Ceramic Brakes, I got 50k out of a set, I will never use other type.
Q:I was putting on a new brake light and might have connected the wrong wires the light wont turn on nor the motorcycle could i have short circuited the battery it still gives 12v when off what can i do to fix it
When you hit a kill change or turn the important thing off it must quick out the spark to floor so it would not go to the spark plug. If it is now not turning off: -the change might be dangerous -there would be a broken wire main to the change -if the switch grounds out to the metal on the bottom facet the place it is attached, there would be rust or paint or whatever built up under it preventing it from making contact I had a motorcycle where the switch failed, i would put the choke on full and open the throttle vast and it will simply die out (or sometimes just stall it). Undoubtedly this isn't easy, and traditionally no longer superb for the bike. It is traditionally valued at it to troubleshoot the important thing switch so it works correctly (assuming it's SUPPOSED to show the bike off). If that you may get a multimeter, you should be competent to see continuity between the body of the bike and the kill wire when the change is pressed. Trace the kill wire back from the swap and make sure it is intact and is connected safely on the opposite end. If you can get an electrical diagram of your bike or a manufacturing unit service manual it would help with troubleshooting.
Q:Regular parts suppliers have things like replacement headlight bulbs. I need a source for the complete motorcycle headlamp assembly that I can utilize in my design. I also need to be able to buy in bulk to sell multiple units.Items needed: headlight assembly, turn signals, turn signal switch, brake light assembly, electric brake light switch (turning brake light on as brake handle is depressed, not hydraulic).I‘m looking for modern styled parts that I can incorporate into custom molded composite fairings.Thank you for your answers!
Jeff, For your prototype vehicle, just use parts from a motorcycle wrecking yard. You'll save money and not be out as much in the long run. Some of the current touring fairings are about as aerodynamic as you can get If you plan to run two front wheels, a hydraulic braking system will be lighter and easier to build, not to mention you can incorporate all brakes into a single hydraulic foot operated unit. Be sure to use double flares on steel lines for safety.
Q:If my condm brake do i got prize?
Third prize in the crap spelling and misposting section.
Q:I have a vague understanding that you don‘t need a motorcycle license to drive certain mopeds. What are the standards that a moped has to meet in order to be street legal without a motorcycle license?
under 50 cc no license required
Q:to do with motor bike pre-learner course the word starts with s-----e 5 letters in between
you have to take it off and reset it. turn the wipers off, take the wiper arm off and set it so it will be at the stopping point, down at the bottom of the windshield.
