- Q: Hi. I need to build a solar panel for a project. it should be able to light a 60 watt light bulb. also, it should be about 3x3 ft if it is 50% efficient. if anyone knows any websites or can help me, please answer! thanks.
- I don't have any practical experience building solar panel arrays to power a given device, but allow me to make this observation. Solar cells, when exposed to sunlight, will each generate a given amount of power (watts), and by wiring these in series, you will increase the wattage. Now, a panel three feet square will give you a certain amount of power, provided all the cells are wired correctly in series, and it may not provide enough juice to light the bulb. You can work around this by adding a step-up transformer (which takes the incoming power and boosts it to the desired level for output, with no moving parts). Voila! You've illuminated your bulb. I will admit, though, you'll have to do some math to determine what you need. A search on the Web will help you find the formulae and other information you'll require. Good luck.
- Q: Ok so i can have a problem i have two 5 watt 2 volt solar panels a 2 volt battery and a 400 watt ac 2 volt dc inverter i believe im only getting 5 watts from from my solar panels thats the equivalent of one is there any way i could get full voltage from my solar panels without theoretically burning my wallet.. please help
- I think you need to take some basic courses on electricity. Usually, 8 volt solar panels are required to charge 2 volt batteries. The voltages of photovoltaic cells are set by the material they are made of, only current changes. If you hook up a 2 V solar panel to a 2 V battery, no current will flow, nothing would get charged. You would need some elaborate DC to DC voltage converters to charge a 2 V battery from 2 V solar panels. Solar panels can be connected in parallel or in series, as you've made the mistake of buying 2 V solar panel, you would have to wire them in series and have a charge controller that could limit the voltage of the charge. Did it ever occur to you that two 5 watt solar panels would not be able to provide the power needed by a 400 watt inverter? You're just running off your battery with your set up. Solar power is expensive power, you can not have solar without burning a hole in your wallet.
- Q: About how much would it cost to purchase and install solar panels for the average American house so that the house can be off the power grid and use the same amount of electricity as it normally does?
- My friend has a system with 6 Panels, I think about 6 large batteries (Like Golf Cart Battery), a 5 KW Generator. It also has all the electronic controllers and monitors. He has about $30,000-$35,000 in his system. It does pretty good except it will not support air conditioning or heat without running the generator which is expensive. He has some niehbors that have air conditiong, but they use a gas / ammonia cycle for that. Caution, even with these systems they must be very careful with power usage, or they must run generators. They are located in the Sonoran desert where the sun shines just about every day so it is the very best of conditions. Based on this, I would say a system that would match the average household usage would cost around $80,000 or more, and would need a huge roof or large open area facing south. Probably not practicle, but possible.
- Q: All I know is they check for amps watts voltage and everything... they dont have to be used for solar panels but um they have like alittle spinny thing in the middle of them. you spin it around to what you wanna test such as the amps watts voltage and stuff.... idk what their called but im looking to buy one to test my solar panels when they come in
- Voltmeter.
- Q: We've been considering solar panels for a while now, and we'd like to know a little more about them. Please answer to the best of your knowledge. Thanks.
- I have had my system for almost a year and love it. I got a 3.74 kwh/dc system, my highest electric bill was $35 in the dead of winter and last month was $6.. I paid $6K for the system and was told I would break even in my 6th year, that was factoring in a 5% annual rate increase. In my area the last few rate increased have been well over 5% and they are talking up to 2% next year. Just keep in mind the amount of energy you use will determine how large of a system will work best for you. My system is tied to the grid, so I don't need a storage system. My utility has net metering, so I sell them my excess during the day and buy back what I need at night.
- Q: What would it take to make a heater for a small solar panel. I am looking into making a heater for a livestock tank to keep ice melted. I know that heaters take alot of energy to run, but my theory is that if heated mirrors on a car can melt ice with low voltage and im sure not extreme heat (40-60 degrees) then making a heater with just high enough temperature to keep from icing over and melting ice is possible. Where do I start? I would like to use an inexpensive solar panel that will generate enough heat to keep ice from forming and melt it at the beginning of the day. How can you make such a heater and apply Ohms law so that it will function correctly, what Wattage will the pannel need to produce to generate enough heat for the heater. The device will only have to be large enough to melt a spot large enough for an animal to drink.
- Absolutely. But I see your point about the Ohms law. I think you'd need technical schematics to get the raw details.
- Q: How do solar panels impact the energy independence of a region?
- Solar panels can greatly enhance the energy independence of a region by providing a clean and renewable source of electricity. By harnessing the power of the sun, solar panels reduce the dependence on non-renewable energy sources such as fossil fuels. This reduces the need for importing energy from other regions, thus enhancing the region's energy independence. Additionally, solar panels can be installed on rooftops and other available spaces, allowing individuals and communities to generate their own electricity and become less reliant on the traditional energy grid. Overall, solar panels contribute to a more sustainable and self-sufficient energy future for the region.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a cruise ship?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a cruise ship, but it may not be the sole source of power due to the large energy demands of a cruise ship. However, solar panels can contribute to the overall energy supply of a cruise ship, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing its environmental impact.
- Q: What is the most efficient solar panel, how many would we need to power the United States, and how much land would it take?
- Annual power consumption in the US is approximately .2*0^5 Watt-hours. The average solar panel can generate 80W continuously. We can break up the calculation into parts: .2*0^5 Watt-hours per year 925 hours per year .3*0^ continuous watts 80W per panel 64383566 panels 000 sq. inches average solar panel area 650 million square miles (!!!) To give you a better idea, the total surfacre area of the United States of America is 3 million square miles. The surface of the earth is 96 million square miles. Not even 3 planets full of solar panels would be enough. Maybe it is easier for people to start using electricity more responsibly?
- Q: Hello,What do you all think about the future of solar panels and what role they will play in the near future. There is tons of money being dumped into the industry and demand is slowly rising. Also do you have any favorite solar links to get more info about them?
