- Q: is this fact true? - its a limitation to solar panels during summer when it's in extremly hot countrie. I've heard it from my science teacher .. please give detail if you have any and any more benefits/limitations is welcomed .. Thank you :) !
- WHAT? This is far from the truth, IN Scottsdale Arizona a small apartment complex was fitted with solar {photo voltaic cells in the late 70s. Every summer they sold electricity back to the power company. It gets up to 5 fairly often here, and as hot as 23 in the shade. On a roof top it is over 50 in direct sunlight. The opposite is true. When it is cloudy they produce less electricity. They may loose some efficiency when it is very hot, but not enough to make them not work at all, or even enough to really harm the output to any really appreciable extent. A new plastic photovoltaic material that produces about 40-45% of a silicon based solar cell is a neat option as it works when it is very cloudy, you can drive nails through it, and it is flexible. I think these items are kept artificially expensive by big business, but this is just a biased opinion of mine, but as far as not working in extreme heat, NO these solar panels work just fine when it is hot. I am in Phoenix Arizona, and it does not get a whole lot hotter than here. If the cells from the 970s worked OK newer ones are better and will do just fine too. Solar hot water heaters are a slightly different matter as they will over heat the water and the water must be mixed with cooler water, or you can really get into trouble. Maybe this is what he meant. Still I doubt it is enough of an issue to cause the device to be less efficient than a gas water heater, or electric, etc. Maybe he is referring to having to mix cooler water into solar heated water in a solar hot water heater, or some other system, Photovoltaic cells do not have any problems rendering them useless from hot weather on this planet, and in fact, they are used in space and it gets much hotter there.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a golf course or clubhouse?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a golf course or clubhouse. They can be mounted on rooftops, carports, or even on the ground in open areas of the golf course. Installing solar panels can help generate clean and renewable energy while reducing electricity costs for the facility.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with extreme temperatures?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with extreme temperatures. Solar panels are designed to withstand a wide range of temperatures, including both extreme heat and cold. However, it's important to note that extreme temperatures can affect the efficiency and performance of solar panels. High temperatures can cause a slight reduction in energy output, while extremely low temperatures can decrease the efficiency temporarily. Nonetheless, solar panels are still a viable and effective renewable energy solution in areas with extreme temperatures.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for powering public transportation?
- Yes, solar panels can be used for powering public transportation. Solar energy can be harnessed through solar panels and converted into electricity, which can then be used to power electric buses, trains, or trams. This approach is eco-friendly and sustainable, contributing to reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels in public transportation systems.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a historical building?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a historical building. However, the installation process should be carefully planned and designed to minimize any potential impact on the building's historical integrity. It is important to consult with experts and adhere to any local regulations or preservation guidelines to ensure a harmonious integration of solar panels without compromising the building's historical value.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on public transportation systems?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on public transportation systems. In fact, many cities around the world have already started implementing solar panels on buses, trams, and trains. This allows the vehicles to generate renewable energy and reduce their carbon footprint while operating. The solar panels can be integrated into the roofs or sides of the vehicles, harnessing sunlight to power various onboard systems, such as lighting or air conditioning. This not only helps to make public transportation more sustainable but also saves on energy costs and promotes a greener future for urban mobility.
- Q: Could you throw some long scientific words in with your answer so I can impress my teacher, I'm looking to expand my scientific vocab. Thanks
- Solar panels are a generic term for any type of solar collecting panel. There are two major types: Photovoltaic uses substances that turn the incoming radiation directly into electricity. Usually you have to have direct sunlight (no clouds) for this to work well. Solar thermal is also used in a lot of areas. Here the radiation is used to heat a circulating fluid (often water directly), and then that is either used directly, or it's used for heat exchange with a heat pump or a boiler system. Solar thermal can collect significant heat even on a cloudy day. So a solar panel could be made of photovoltaic panels, but it doesn't have to be.
- Q: What is the average size of a solar panel?
- The average size of a solar panel is typically around 65 inches by 39 inches, or about 5.4 feet by 3.25 feet. However, the size can vary depending on the manufacturer and the specific model of the solar panel.
- Q: Has anyone had any experience building their own solar panels for home use? I have seen on the news lately that people are utilizing solar panels to power their hot water heaters to save on their power bill.
- a solar hot water heater is not a solar panel that makes electricity that runs your hot water heater.....it is merely a long tube or pipe, bent back on itself so there,s, say 00 feet in a 2foot by 4 foot space; it's in a framework and under a sheet of glass or plastic; You put out in the sun and it captures heat.....ever notice how hot the water is coming out a garden hose that has been left out in the sun in summer? Same idea.. we have used them here in the islands for years and they work great. Even up north, a solar hot water heater that preheats the water before it goes to a traditional water heater should work fine.
- Q: Can solar panels work at night?
- No, solar panels do not work at night as they rely on sunlight to generate electricity.
