- What I would suggest is that you find a panel that is rated for 00 mA, at any voltage higher than 8 volts. A 2 or even 8-volt panel will do, because the voltage will drop to match the battery. Then I would get a diode to put in series with the panel to prevent the battery from discharging through the panel at night. That's called a blocking diode. At such low currents, a charge controller is not worth it. There is not enough power to overheat the battery, which is principally what a charge controller protects against in a larger system. Be aware that you could also simply plug a trickle charger for the battery into the wall outlet, at a cost of less than a penny a day in electricity.

So you will need to know how much battery capacity you need by calculating the Amp hour rating of your applicances that you normally use at night like Microwave, TV, radio, refrigerator, etc. For some depending on the appliance....water heater (if electric) or stove) then you need to figure out how many panels you need to provide your normal daily energy use, figure out how many batteries you need, set up a distribution system that gives you what you need where you want it and wa la. Once done, you will be off the grid and paying nothing from the electrical utility. Some places due to deregulations allow you to sell excess power to local utilities too, but those systems need to meet tight standards.

- I okorder and they have deep cycle batteries exclusively made for solar panels. but in theory you should get more than one because it only takes around 4-5 volts to charge the battery and you do not want to have it that high even with a charge controller which i would also recommend getting which is like $50 on OKorder but a charge controller is used so you do not overcharge the batteries and fry them or undercharge the batteries and weaken its life it gets it just perfect. it lets the current go in and when it is charged fully nothing goes in an nothing comes out.... for a inverter the one i was going to get was $70 500 watt inverter but changes it from dc to ac...hope i helped
