- Q: We've been living in a new development apartments since they opened and last night (2AM) there was yet another false fire alarm. This makes 6 in the past 4 1/2 months. This is the 3rd alarm to go off after midnight, and it is so bad that some of the residents who've been through the past few didn't even leave the building.Personally, we're going out every time, even though we're fairly certain it's another false alarm, but better safe than sorry. That being said, there has to be some recourse or compensation for these repeated problems. - What time of year are you going? Some of the smaller mountain pass roads close for the winter. The major interstates will be clear and easily passed with an intermediate. - You are wise to be concerned about Carbon Monoxide (CO). That old furnace is inefficient, and likely it doesn't have the best sealed exhaust system for the unit. My question to you is Where does the furnace take its air from to fill the house above with warm air and where does it get its fresh air for combustion? If the unit has a cold air return from the unit above then they're not pulling air out of your living space. If the cold air return IS taking the air from your basement apartment then you are helping heat the unit above. To keep your space warm you definitely DON'T want your air going upstairs. But to gather more heat from that wasteful appliance, don't try anything that could pump CO into your rooms. Even (my opinion) leaving the door open is chancy. Hope this helps. 'av'a g'day mate. )

- the way i understand this (and this is probably hopelessly inadequate and inaccurate) is that we ARE travelling at the speed of light, only we are travelling in the direction of time, which is basically another spatial dimension. there is only one speed - lightspeed, and so increasing our speed in one direction (such as a normal spatial direction) reduces our speed through time. the whole thing (universe) is just a 'frozen block of spacetime' as some author put it. sorry, can't remember who said that. but maybe travelling isn't such a good idea to use; maybe you should just think about it in terms of how we are distributed through spacetime. the way we experience things is illusory
