- LOVE the name. LOVE it. :) It doesn't lend itself well to nicknames, though, other than Si (pronounced Sigh). A little Silas I know just goes by Silas, his parents don't feel he needs any kind of nickname - ditto for a pre-teen Silas I've met. Don't do variant spellings, though. People who can't sound things out will mispronounce or misspell it anyway, as they do a lot of other names that likewise should be obvious to pronounce and spell. (My last name is quite simple, and people mispronounce and misspell it all the time!) So just stick with the standard spelling, and either plan on Si as a nickname, or no nicknames.
