Q:Think about it, we wash our hands then open the door which has been opened by a lazy git who hasn't washed his/her hands. If wash basins were outside the room people wouldn't have to touch dirty door handles after washing their hands and people would be shamed into washing their hands as they'd be in full view of other people.: Probably more to do with convenience, its easier to have all the water pipes running in the same area rather than putting a sink out the way from the rest and spreading water pipes all round the house. I totally see your point though, but I don't think where the sink is would make any difference to anyone disgusting enough not to wash their hands.

It seems like the smell it getting stronger. shoiuld I call the repair service or is there something I can use to clean it myself?: Run an empty short cycle with hot water, a little bleach and a little pine sol or similar cleanser, it will help kill the smell, I do it all the time. I also spray a mildew remover like Tilex or something in the tub once a month or so, let it set a bit, then wash a small load of old towels or rags before washing good stuff. My washer has a filter assembly down at the bottom too, hubby removes the cover and we wash the filter real good - it can start smelling too. Good luck!
