- That would depend on the ordinances of the community you live in. Normally the F/D wont break a door down they will knock or ring a bell, the proceed around the house. If they see smoke or suspect there to be a reason to enter the house. The door will come down. If noone is home and the alarm sounds I would want the F/D there, door or no door. There shouldnt be a charge but if it happens frequently you may face a fine. Check with your local gov. you can gain alot of information simply by stopping in your local F/D and asking questions. Those folks usually enjoy a visitor, they have to be there and sometimes they get bored.. Go see them and just thank them for being there waiting for the alarm to sound
