Description
Ferro Silicon is one kind of ferroalloy which composes ferrum and silicon. Ferro Silicon uses coke, quartz
(or silica) as raw materials and it is made by electric furnace. Owing to that silicon and oxygen are easily compound
into SiO2, the ferrosilicon is often used as deoxidizer in steel plant.
Features
1. Fesi 65% is often used as deoxidizer in steel- making.
2. Ferrosilicon also can be used as alloy elements join agent, which is widely used in low alloy steel, non-ferrous metal, bearing steel, heat-resistant steels and electrician silicon-steel.
3. Ferro alloy can be used as a reductant in ferroalloy production and chemical industry.

- Q:so is it true that Iron ore is basically rust?
- For the most part. Hematite, magnetite and the other ores are mainly iron oxide, same as rust, although rust is highly hydrated, while the ores are pure oxide. Also, Pyrite (fool's gold) is an iron ore, and it's iron sulfide, not iron oxide. Most commonly used iron ores are the oxides, though.
- Q:I Just need to know
- ore is heavy so it is not economical Why would you, when we have the great Lakes here to float it around the Rust Belt
- Q:What are some issues relating to the continued use of iron ore in the future?
- Goal #1 Destroy the symbol of American economic strength. CHECK Goal #2 To get America to invade and destablize the Middle East CHECK Goal #3 By causing #1, drive up oil prices to do damage to the economies of industrialized nations. CHECk Goal #4 Pull Israel in to the conflict so other Arab nations would join. Goal #5 Manipulate the Saudi Royal family into opposinng the invasion of the infedels on sacred land, or unseat them for not doing so. They hate America, because they see industrialized nations exploiting them for their resources and bleeding their holy lands dry. They hate Ameria for supporting Israel without questioning their tactics. They hate America because they see us strong-arming the rest of the world through economic relations. They hate American because they view our government as a rogue government that serves at the pleasure of Israel.
- Q:magnetite. bauxite. chalcocite pyrite.
- Really Bob y .cant you do your own homework? Try searching on google and stop being lazy!
- Q:When can I buy them, are they expensive, can I find them myself?
- Iron ore pellets' contains two words with different meaning. The first one is 'Iron ore' and another is 'Pellet'. Let me tell you about the both: Iron ore- Today, steel is the most common metal used by man for construction of our building, bridges, aircraft, cars, bikes and everyday items. This steel is produced by 'iron ore'. Iron ore is dug out of the ground and processed to make steel. Pellet- Pellet is the raw form of steel by which iron is extracted and converted into steel. This pellet is made by iron ore by using pelletizing process. In the process of pelletizing the ore is crushed into a fine powder, mixed with water, making slurry. Clay is added to the slurry and the mixture shaped into pellets. This pellet is converted into steel. So the iron ore pellets are hard to find and also very costly.
- Q:The iron age started about 700BC 1300 years after the Bronze age. Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper. However, iron ore is more abundant and easier to find than ores of copper and tin. This is for my chemistry homework! Thanks for your help
- Cu and Sn are a lot easier to process than Fe. Aluminum is one of the most common elements in the crust but the technology to easily extract it has only been around for about 100 years. Napoleon had aluminum silverware since at the time Aluminum was more valuable than gold.
- Q:Thanks
- Typical process: (1) Blast the ore and remove it from the ground. (2) Grind it to powder in huge mills (or mix with water and grind to mud in a wet process) (3) Separate it from contaminants using magnetic separation (for magnetite) or a process called froth flotation (for hematite). (4) Settle it and decant off most of the water. Filter off the rest of the water. (5) Pelletize the concentrate on pelletizing disks or in pelletizing drums to make grape-sized balls. (6) Roast the pellets to harden them and dry away residual water. (7) Transport to a smelter where one typically uses a blast furnace or arc furnace. Carbon (coke) is added along with a silica flux. The coke combines with the oxygen in the ore leaving metallic iron, and other impurities combine with the silica to form slag.
- Q:In mining, what could they do with the unwanted rock material after they crush the ore.
- Inferior sources of iron ore generally required beneficiation. Due to the high density of hematite relative to silicates, beneficiation usually involves a combination of crushing and milling as well as heavy liquid separation. This is achieved by passing the finely crushed ore over a bath of solution containing bentonite or other agent which increases the density of the solution. When the density of the solution is properly calibrated, the hematite will sink and the silicate mineral fragments will float and can be removed. Taconite mining involves moving tremendous amounts of ore and waste. The waste comes in two forms, bedrock in the mine (mullock) that isn't ore, and unwanted minerals which are an intrinsic part of the ore rock itself (gangue). The mullock is mined and piled in waste dumps, and the gangue is separated during the beneficiation process and is removed as tailings. Taconite tailings are mostly the mineral quartz, which is chemically inert. This material is stored in large, regulated water settling ponds. Magnetite is beneficiated by crushing and then separating the magnetite from the gangue minerals with a magnet. This is usually so efficient that lower grade ore can be treated when it is magnetite than a comparable grade of hematite ore, especially when the magnetite is quite coarse. To convert an oxide of iron to metallic iron it must be smelted or sent through a direct reduction process.
