Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

Coal (from the Old English term col, which has meant "mineral of fossilized carbon" since the 13th century)is a combustible black or brownish-black sedimentary rock usually occurring in rock strata in layers or veins called coal beds or coal seams. The harder forms, such as anthracite coal, can be regarded as metamorphic rock because of later exposure to elevated temperature and pressure. Coal is composed primarily of carbon along with variable quantities of other elements, chiefly hydrogen, sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen.

Throughout history, coal has been used as an energy resource, primarily burned for the production of electricity and/or heat, and is also used for industrial purposes, such as refining metals. A fossil fuel, coal forms when dead plant matter is converted into peat, which in turn is converted into lignite, then sub-bituminous coal, after that bituminous coal, and lastly anthracite. This involves biological and geological processes that take place over a long period. The Energy Information Administration estimates coal reserves at 948×109 short tons (860 Gt).One estimate for resources is 18 000 Gt.

Coal is the largest source of energy for the generation of electricity worldwide, as well as one of the largest worldwide anthropogenic sources of carbon dioxide releases. In 1999, world gross carbon dioxide emissions from coal usage were 8,666 million tonnes of carbon dioxide. In 2011, world gross emissions from coal usage were 14,416 million tonnes.Coal-fired electric power generation emits around 2,000 pounds of carbon dioxide for every megawatt-hour generated, which is almost double the approximately 1100 pounds of carbon dioxide released by a natural gas-fired electric plant per megawatt-hour generated. Because of this higher carbon efficiency of natural gas generation, as the market in the United States has changed to reduce coal and increase natural gas generation, carbon dioxide emissions have fallen. Those measured in the first quarter of 2012 were the lowest of any recorded for the first quarter of any year since 1992.In 2013, the head of the UN climate agency advised that most of the world's coal reserves should be left in the ground to avoid catastrophic global warming.

Coal is extracted from the ground by coal mining, either underground by shaft mining, or at ground level by open pit mining extraction. Since 1983 the world top coal producer has been China. In 2011 China produced 3,520 million tonnes of coal – 49.5% of 7,695 million tonnes world coal production. In 2011 other large producers were United States (993 million tonnes), India (589), European Union (576) and Australia (416).[9] In 2010 the largest exporters were Australia with 328 million tonnes (27.1% of world coal export) and Indonesia with 316 million tonnes (26.1%),while the largest importers were Japan with 207 million tonnes (17.5% of world coal import), China with 195 million tonnes (16.6%) and South Korea with 126 million tonnes (10.7%).

Q:What does 1060h/24 mean in aluminium alloy?
Each digit in the 1060-H24 stands for the following meanings:First, a number of Arabia 1 is representative of pure aluminum (aluminum is aluminum content above 99% aluminum, in addition to the beginning and start with 2-8 are 2### for copper and aluminum magnesium alloy, 3### aluminum manganese alloy, 4### alloy, 5### alloy and so on)Two, second, Arabia number 0, said the original alloy, such as 1, said the original alloy after a modification, 2 means that the original alloy after two modificationsThree, third and four 60 two Arabia data represent the value behind pure aluminum content of 99% per cent in pure aluminum, said 60 pure aluminum aluminum content of 99.60%, as the standard 1050 indicates the aluminum content of pure aluminum, 99.50% of the 1070 said that the aluminum content of 99.70% pure aluminum alloy in the back.
Q:For lunch I want to take these little packaged Italian sandwich things that you warm up in the microwave for 3:00 on high to eat at schoolI'll probably warm it up around 7:45 or 8:00 a.m., so how can I keep it hot until around 10:50 (that's when I eat lunch)? Is there a insulated box I can use?
Wrap it with aluminum foil, then try buying a lunch bag, the ones that are insulated.
Q:Do they stick to the pan or aluminum foil or turn out really crunchy or what?
they stick to the pad badly and char at the bottoms and they will probably break apart when you try to scrape them off the panif you don't have oil try cooking spray or butter
Q:I've done this and I got -10148.2KJ, but it kind of seems like a large numberThe next part of the question I have to find the heat produced when 1.00L of octane is burnedOctane has a density of 730g/LI did this by first finding the mass, and then converting this to molesThen I used HnHr, and the answer I got was -62 411.43 KJI'm pretty sure I've gone completely wrong at this pointThe last part of the question you have to find the mass of octane to raise the tempof an aluminum engine block from 15.0Celcius to 85.0 CelciusThe engine block has a mass 110.0kg, the specific heat capacity is 0.900KJ/g, and only 20% of the heat produced is used to heat the engine blockSo far I've used Qmct, and got 6930KJ, multiplied that by 20%, and got 1386kJI'm not sure how to go forth after this pointIf anyone could check my answers, and help figure out how to do this question it would be much appreciated.
I went to Chem Eng classes a long time ago, so I know SAE unitsBut let's see how far I getLast one first: 242 lb aluminum block, Cp of Al 0.21 Btu/lb-F15-85C delta Temp of 126FSo 242x.21x1266403 BTUsWhich is 6,755 KJn-Butane has a heat of combustion of 21,308 BTU/lb, n-Pentane 21,091, n-Hexane 20,940 (Perry's Chemical Engineering Handbook, Table 9-30)Following that curve through n-Heptane to N-Octane, I'd estimate octane at 20,780 BTU/lb gross (assumes the produced water vapor condenses)So let's use net (leaves water as vapor), subtract 1,500 and get 19,280 BTU/lbNeed 6402 BTUs, divide by 19,280 BTU/lb 0.332 pounds or 150 gramsdivide by 0.730g/l 206 ml of octane to heat the engine blockIf only 20% goes to block heating, then 206ml/0.20 1.03 liters of octaneSecond one: liter of octane 730 grams 1.6 pounds x 19,280 BTU/lb 31,000 BTUs divide conversion factor of 9.478E-4 BTU/J 32,700,000 JoulesBut you're at 62,000,000 joulesLike a factor of two offFirst one: heat of combustion of octane -5508.9 KJ/mol (see reference below) 730 g / 114 g/mole 6.4 moles One liter then gives 6.4 x 5509 -35280 KJ which is close to what I got above.

Q:How are aluminum coils cut to size?
Aluminum coils are typically cut to size using specialized coil slitting machines. These machines have rotating circular blades that make precise cuts along the length of the coil. The coil is fed through the machine, and the blades cut the aluminum into the desired width. The cut pieces are then collected and further processed or used for various applications.
Q:Ive heard put potatoes in with the fish, burning coffee on a foil on the burner, boiling vinegarAny GREAT ones that you know that work??Quick please :) !! I'm cooking in an hour
Chrome, but any color will be black after about a year
Q:The exact question from the book is this:For each of the following compounds:a) draw the Lewis Structureb) give the shape of the moleculec) indicate the polarity of the moleculeWe had to do it for ammonia, aluminum fluoride, and CBrI3, which I do not know how to name(That's an upper case i after the Br)
My best friend had twin boys both premmies.and I believe she just kept like 2 or 3 blankets on themRemember.keeping them close will also helpI'd do 2 doubled up and swaddle them.then lay one on them.
Q:What are the typical lead times for aluminum coil orders?
The typical lead times for aluminum coil orders can vary depending on several factors. Generally, lead times for standard aluminum coil orders range from a few weeks to a few months. These lead times are influenced by factors such as the size and complexity of the order, the availability of raw materials, the production capacity of the supplier, and any specific customization requirements. It is important to note that lead times may be longer for larger or more specialized orders, especially if they require additional processing or finishing. Additionally, external factors such as transportation and logistics can also impact lead times. It is always recommended to communicate with the supplier directly to get an accurate estimate of the lead time for a specific aluminum coil order.
