Some motors are cheap, some aren't! I've found that with electrical motors you really don't want the cheap one as it'll cost even more to replace it again and again. Could be that the a/c tech was selling you a motor that was first bought by the a/c manufacturer, then bought by the a/c techs service company, then finally bought by you, each company in the chain marked it up. The motor might say 'Trane' (for example) but be made by Baldor from Ft Smith, Ark. Also you mentioned 'freon', well not just anybody can handle that stuff, Federal Law, only a certified HVAC tech can even buy it

The A/C compressor itself is powered by a belt on a loop with the engine. The blower will work, but the A/C will not be cold. When the engine is running, the belt and pulle are moving, and thus the compressor is on, and youre getting cold A/C. It's not dangerous to run it with the engine off, just pointless.

Q:Why capacitor is needed in single phase ac motor?
The capacitor in series with the starting winding on a cap-start induction motor is there to create a lag in the current through this winding relative to the run winding. The two coils fields are thus a little bit out of phase with each other, which imparts a little bit of direction to the overall magnetic field. Essentially, it creates a second phase. This is required, since with only one coil (one phase) all attraction and repulsion between the coil and the induced field in the rotor would be exactly perpendicular to the motor shaft. The field has to be have some component tangential to the shaft to start things rotating.

If it is a 3-phase motor, the power factor is 0.49 calculated as shown in another answer. That is a rather low power factor, but not unreasonable, particularly if it is a low speed motor or is lightly loaded. If it is a single phase motor, the kva is simply 45 X 230 / 1000 = 10.35 and the power factor is 8.8 / 10.35 = 0.85. Assuming that it is a standard motor operating at full load, it is most likely a 7.5 kW (10 Hp) motor. In that case the efficiency would be 7.5/8.8 X 100 = 85.2%, a reasonable figure for that size motor. It would be unusual for a motor of that size to be a single phase motor, but single phase motors of that size are listed in some motor catalogs.
Q:I have a 2001 BMW 325i..the air conditioning completly went out about 2 weeks ago, nothing would work. I took it to a repair shop m,y buddy owns (so i know he didnt cheat me) and they said it may be the blow motor, so they fooled around with it and it started working after 5 minutes of messing with it it automatically came on and started working. They said the antifreeze was low so they filled that up also and I was on my way....about 3 days of the air conditioning working fine, i came out side and id had the ac on high went i turned the car off and it was still on....now even if the cars off the air still blows on high, if you try to turn the air off or turn it down its still on....what could it be??????
