Q: I heard that solar energy has a lot of advantages but are there any drawbacks in using the solar panels?
I guess the main thing is to look out for the warranty like where the warranty is claimed and the process of claim, how efficient the inverter of the system is and also make sure you are getting value for your money.
Q: Does the new horizons has a solar panel for it power resources instead using nuclear generator?
It uses the nuclear decay of plutonium in a 'Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generator, or RTG. The heat of plutonium decay is captured and converted to electricity. Pioneers 0 and , Curiosity on Mars, and other deep-space probes use this, as the sun's light is too dim to use solar panels.
Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high pollution levels?
Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high pollution levels. While pollution can potentially decrease the efficiency of solar panels, they can still generate electricity even in polluted environments. Additionally, using solar energy can help in reducing reliance on polluting fossil fuels, contributing to the overall improvement of air quality.
Q: If you were to be asked to write a material(s) report on either -solar panelsor -aircraft fuselageWhich would you choose?well i was asked to choose between these two,so i guess that if i choose what the majority wouldn't, i might just score a little bit higher, what do you think?if you are the lecturer you would want something different right?
Solar Panels. Solar panels is a generic term for any semiconductor that converts solar energy to electrical energy. However there many different kinds of solar panels and constructed in different ways from different materials. There is the generic polysilicon solar panels for residential installation on one end of the spectrum. On the other end are very high efficiency (and expensive) solar cells used on the Mars Orbiter that are constructed of so called triple junction GaAs/Ge solar cells. In addition there are also the thin film solar cells that are being researched that use Cadmium Telluride (CdTe) to form junctions and make very efficient cells on very thin substrates. I would say that research into materials that can be used for solar cells is one of the hottest research fields right now. (That being said, I really did enjoy Airframe by Micheal Crithon. Whenever I'm in a plane during bad weather I always thing of the engineers that designed the plane... what assumptions did they make... what tradeoffs did they make... )
Q: Do solar panels work in cloudy weather?
Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity in cloudy weather, although their efficiency may be reduced compared to sunny conditions.
Q: I have created a solar setup in my shed i have 2x.5w solar panels i am hoping to charge my 55ah car battery how long would it take to charge the battery and how many watts could i used a day
Quite a while. I am assuming you are using 2 volts as your buss power. The small panels were intended as a float charge for batteries to keep them from discharging over a period of time. 3 Watts means only /4 Amp. Normally when I do slow charging of batteries, I am using right around amp, and that takes about a week to bring up a battery that was discharged past 80 percent capacity. When you factor in losses from corrosion, battery self discharge, and loose connections, you will likely want to add more panels. using your 55Amp/hour battery, a amp charger running constant in a perfect world would take 55 hours. Real world, probably closer to 64 to 72 hours. That for simplicity is 5 Watts constant charge power. Now you are using /5 of that with your current setup. so 5 times longer, whichh puts you in the 300 hour range of real world, or 220 hours of perfect world. This time of year, you may have about 8 hours worth of charging light, which puts you at close to a month. Don't fret. If you are using it for lighting in a shed, Power LEDs and tethering some of the inexpensive LED lights to the 2 volt source will give you plenty of light for a very long time, the panels will help some, but you will likely need to put the batteries on a charger, or you can build a gas powered 2 volt generator easily enough. Charge it up only when needed.
Q: I am looking to buy a solar panel. What does it mean when in the title it says 200 watts, or 50 watts?
You have to be realistic about the amount of power you can get from a solar panel. Solar panels only produce power when sunlight strikes them. So it's pretty obvious that solar panels don't give you any power at night, and that you aren't going to get as much power in overcast conditions, or when the sun is at an oblique angle to the solar panel, as you do in the middle of a sunny day when the panel is pointing directly at the sun. Solar panels are rated under standard test conditions. All manufacturers are obliged to use the same conditions for testing, so by comparing the rated output you can compare the performance of different solar panels. Q: I need a solar panel which can light up 4 full loaded 5 rooms appartment houses
good idea going solar, i would suggest doing a google search, as their are many suppliers. then you need to calculate the amount of wattage you think these apartment houses are going to require. volts x amps = watts. if you are going to be off of the power grid, then you will need a way to store excess energy during good times,( lots of sun) in order to use it during bad times ( no sun ). or see if you are able to sell your extra power back to your local power company, check because some companies do not allow this. you could even have a generator for emergencies if you go off the power grid. on final note, solar is a pretty sizable investment up front and your profits are seen mainly in the long run, but you will get energy savings immediately, but more likely those savings will go to paying off the solar panels also, you will need a converter to convert the ac (alternate current) produced by the panels into dc ( direct current ) which is used by the apartments. it will tie in to the existing electrical system in the apartments. i know germany is really pushing solar energy and they offer their citizens some pretty sweet deals to go solar. the companies are profiting from this so i would suggest looking for a supplier in germany, first. they may have better deals, or try bp (british petroeum) they have been in the solar business for awhile. i wish you success!
Q: I got a really great deal on 2 houses because they were fixer-uppers. I'm living in one and the other I'm renting out. However, the previous owner did everything himself in 950 95, so needless to say, things are not to todays standards. Both houses need rewiring (there are no ceiling lights, few outlets, and mine has two old fuse boxes and the other has a breaker box but it pops the breaker a lot). The only reason they are still functional is because both houses use natural gas for water and heat, so otherwise, they electrical work is getting us by, but who knows for how long. I thought that maybe instead of redoing the electric, that I could just add solar panels to compensate for the small electric boxes. Also, since I would have to hire electricians to do all the work, which would be more cost effective (not including the decrease in utilities since I don't pay the utilities in the rental anyways)?
No. solar panels would not solve your problems and are usually not cost effective. Solar panels will not help to compensate for undersized electrical service. You would still have to upgrade the existing service. Once that is done you should have no problems and all the electricity you need would come from your power company. Have an electrician come out and do an inspection and tell you what all needs upgrading. Solar panels would save you money on the monthly power bill but the cost to install them would be higher than your savings. If it made economic sense to have solar power then everybody would be doing it. That's why you see very few houses with solar panels on top.
