- Q: i have to do a science fair project and thought it would be cool to make a solar powered vw bus. i have 2 6volt solar panels to power a dc motor that works off of 9v 2v or 8v. i also bought a 2nd motor because the first wasnt workin for us. this one is a 3v motor. ive had them in the sun but they wont work. please help, thanks
- You didn't say how much power your panels can produce, or how much power (current x volts) the motors require. The panels must meet or exceed what the motor requires. You might need to get a very small motor and a little gearbox out of some other motorized toy, or at least a small pinion gear for the motor and a larger ring gear that can be attached to an axle (similar to how RC cars accomplish their drive train). A worm gear drive set might be even better if the motor / solar panel combination isn't very powerful - it'll go slowly, but some movement is better than no movement. If you put the panels in series, a 2 V motor should be the best match (again, only if its power requirements are small enough). If you want to try running the 3 volt motor off the panels, you might try paralleling them (make sure you get the polarity right or they'll try to kill each other) - you'll still be mis-matched, but if the motor requires less power than the 9/2/8 volt motor(s), it might work. If you have or can acquire a multi-meter, you'll be able to measure the voltages and currents and that will not only help you see what's going on, but adding some details might help others help you get this working.
- Q: How much electricity can a solar panel produce?
- The amount of electricity a solar panel can produce depends on several factors, including the size of the panel, its efficiency, and the amount of sunlight it receives. On average, a standard 300-watt solar panel can generate around 300-400 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month under optimal conditions. However, it's important to note that actual electricity production may vary based on location, weather conditions, and other variables.
- Q: Exactly How much power will this kit produce? for example. Will it only be able to power the 2 light throughout an entire day or would it be able to power a couple TV's with a couple lights. Or a Refrigerator? washer dryer? I'm just wondering exactly what it will be able to do and if it's worth paying $200 for if it'll only power two lights. Don't get me wrong, That's great and will make a difference but i'm looking for something that will make a little bit of a bigger difference. Would the 80 watt monocrystalline solar panel be much better? if so, what would it be able to power? double?
- Yes, 80 watts will be nearly twice as useful as 45 watts - but 80 is still a small number. Solar panel systems need an inverter and there's a slight energy loss at the inverter. And, if you want to use the day's energy at night, you'll need a battery or two. And every time you move energy into or out of a battery, you lose a little of the energy. All this is to say that you need to sum up the wattage of your appliances and add a fudge factor to accommodate for the losses. I looked at the kit and was moderately impressed. $200/45=$4.44/watt; that's a reasonable price but the links I left below talk of prices as low as $2.58/watt. Also the Harbor Freight kit doesn't contain an 'inverter' which you would have to buy. Also the wattage advertised for any solar panel assumes the thing is clean and pointed right at the sun on a clear day.
- Q: What is the average annual energy output of solar panels that can be installed on the home?
- Average Solar Panel Output
- Q: Can solar panels be installed in a community or neighborhood?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed in a community or neighborhood. In fact, many communities and neighborhoods have embraced solar energy and installed solar panels on residential and commercial buildings. Installing solar panels in a community or neighborhood can contribute to a cleaner environment, reduce energy costs, and promote sustainable living. Additionally, community solar initiatives allow multiple households to collectively benefit from shared solar installations, making it accessible to a wider range of residents.
- Q: If not how do they give power to a house/a company?
- Solar panels can be connected to your household wiring with a piece of equipment called a grid tie inverter. You power company will probably require either an automatic or manual means for disconnecting your equipment from their grid in the event of a power outage or line maintainence. Homepower Magazine is an excellent source for information about solar and other alternative energy sources. A primer on the basics of solar electricity can be found using the first link below. You can download a free sample issue of the magazine using the second link below. The sample issue being offered changes occasionally. Don
- Q: I was just wondering what the minimum and maximm charging voltage and ampere is for li ion batteries. If i connect a solar panel, which only gets enough sunshine to generate voltage, will that still charge the battery, or would i have to series connect solar panels until they together reach 3,7volt?
- One lithium cell requires 4.2V to obtain its full charge, Never exceed 4.2V ! Output from solar panel if below 3.7V , nothing charge to lithium. Total charging time until the cell is full depending on the AH rate of cell and the charging current that solar panel can be provided. Suppose cell is rate 5AH, and the charging current from solar panel under full sun shine can maintain 0.5A ( use solar panel short circuit current rate from its specification as a reference ) , hence, 0 hours is enough. And be sure the solar panel can maintain 4.2V output at 0.5A . Remember, over charge lithium cell one time might reduce its life into half . Therefore, let the solar panel output passing through a precision regulator to maintain output is 4.2V is the best way, because, as cell reaches 4.2V , no more charging current is forced into cell ( automatic stop charging ). If you do not have the knowledge to make this simple variable voltage regulator with LM37K ( if you choose this way, buy solar panel output has at least 2V) , you may choose to do it manually by install a current meter and a variable resistor in series between the panel output to cell. By adjust the value of resistor, charging current can be controlled ( if you choose this way, buy solar panel output has as less as 6V ). Count the charging time with a clock and adjust the charging current from time to time to maintain 0.5A .

- Q: I want to put a solar panel(s) on my roof. What components do I need besides the solar panels? solar power controller? wires? How do I hook it into my home's electrical system and about how much electricity could I generate and save? Would the panels pay for themselves over time? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!
- solar panels are VERY heavy and can be very complicated, youll need a professional. your roof may need to be reinforced to handle the weight added. some states like Arizona will pay for the system for you.you could use solar power to heat the water in the house and everything else off the power company. if you do, get one with a glycol heat transfer solution. they heat more efficiently.
- Q: can i put a solar panel on a projector. if nt wat is a low energy projector that i can watch movies and play games on
- Solar panels put out DC voltage, like a battery. The projectors that plug into the wall require AC voltage. Unless you got a travel projector that plugs into a cigarette lighter (does that exist?), you would need to convert the DC power from the solar panel to AC for the projector with an inverter. And if you want to use it when the sun isn't shining, you'd need batteries to store the power.
