FAQ

What things in my car could the seizing of my water pump cause? As I stated in another question, the power steering went, the red battery light came on and it over heated. The mechanic said it seized and i'm lucky the engine didn't seize. He has to look into it more. I'm just really curious as to what kind of damage i've done and the possibilities! thanks in advance.
It really depends on the car and how hot it got when it overheated. most likely you will need a new belt and of course a water-pump. Possibly you have cracked a cylinder head or warped it, this mostly occurs on aluminum cylinder heads and is unlikely if cylinder heads are iron.
s10 blazer with 130k original miles.. is leaking water but not from the water pump... just replaced it and still leaking from the same area... where are the freeze plugs located? where else could it be leaking from? it lools like its coming from harmonic balancer or close by!!
look at the housing that the water pump bolts to ,it may be busted and there's some of the bolts that go all the way through in to the block if those wasn't coated with sealant it will still leak from the bolts that hold the water pump on,and that will make it appear to be leaking from the front cover, you got two freeze plugs in the front and three down each side, good luck with it,
I think its the water pump, I fill the coolant with water everyday and it is empty once I make it to my destination.
I know this isn't exactly what you asked but if you have the v6 engine changing the water pump on this car is a very easy job. There is a video on youtube that shows you exactly how to do it, just search water pump gm 3.1. Just be sure to get all of the old gasket off and use rtv on the new gasket. You could probably change it yourself for less than $50 and 1 hour if you can do basic car maintenance.
Is it a good idea to turn my pond water pump off at night and back on during the day to lower my electricity bill?
we only turned our pond pump on when we were outside to enjoy the pond...that way if our pump got knocked over we were there to keep the water from being pumped out of the pond...which did actually happen due to wind alot..lol...my goldfish in the pond...have lived thru two winters and a summer just this way...they dont need the pump to survive the wind keeps enough oxygen in the pond with ripples that its fine...as for the mosquito's...they form in any standing water..they form in normal ground ponds..they will form in your pond whether you have the pump running or not...we have had our pond 8 years now..and the first year we ran it all the time...we still had mosquito's and that was the only water source around...frogs started coming to the pond after we turned the pond off..which was actually cool..part of the summer we had tadpoles and the fish of course ate some of them...
1998 Honda civic water pump plastic or metal inside (OEM)?
Water pumps are metal including the frame, the water pulley, and the fins on the other side. Plastic fins would not be ideal as it would spin constantly and come in contact with hot coolant for the duration your engine is on. Eventually, it would soften, bend and become insufficient in pushing and circulating coolant throughout your engine. Hope this helps!
here is the problem with my water pump control switch settings. the water is being used, runs dry and stays off for sometimes 3 minutes or so.i realize the springs control the cut in and cut out. do i need to make the spring more compressed to make the pump come on sooner? or do i need to make the spring looser to make the switch come on sooner?when i read/hear about adjusting the cut in. the answers seem vague because i do not know the perspecitve of the spring.does compressing the spring make the swith flip easier? or does compressing the spring make the switch harder to flip on?i installed a new 30/50 switch today. My air tank was at 50 or so PSI. but i dropped it to about 30. is the goeal to make the entire full system 50 pounds? because after my pump cycles i get about 70 psi!!!
with the switch set to operate at 30/50 the tank should have 27 or 28 pounds of air with no water in tank and a faucet open with pump turned off...once this is set the pump will come on at 30 and off at 50 if it goes higher than this the switch is bad or the adjustments have been changed....tightening the tall spring turns both cut in and cut off pressure higher...loosening the tall spring turns both cut in and cut off lower....the short spring sets the difference between the two...tightening the shorth spring raises cut off pressure only...loosening the short spring lowers cut off pressure only....
replaced one themostat, disconected lower unit twice look at the water pump everything looks fine but when lower unit was reconnected water pump would not work. not sure if asembled it wrong or forgot to d somthing. can someone help.
if all is lined up properly use compressed air and blow through the visual. this will dislodge any debris that may be blocking the water passages.
