- Sounds like you've put the wrong type of batteries in them. Some smoke detectors are very finicky about what batteries they will work with, to the point where they will work with one brand of battery but not another even though they are both alkaline. If you still have the packaging for the detectors, check to see if they need a certain battery.

My brother's house burned to the ground from a kitchen fire. It took the FD 20 minutes to arrive, in that short time, the house was gone. just like our earthquake preparedness kits, we should think about a much more likely possibility.
