- Q:Can a grenade blow through brick/cement wall?
- Most definitely.
- Q:i have started to open my old open fire and am redoing the hearth and the base square. is it safe to use concrete or cement as it is or do i have to add something to it to make it tolorant to the heat from the open fire or do i need to use a totally diff material,... please help,
- Cement is OK but if you want a good job at not a great cost, use fire brick to line the surface of the burning area.
- Q:tomorow we have an activity onquot;how to mix concretequot;in the mix is: cement, sand, gravel and water..we need to know the ratio of this 4 factorsbecause the usual mix that we know isone bag of cement is to 2 cubic foot of sand and gravel...but the question is if wer going to use only 15% of cementwats the ratio with regards to gravel and sand and water
- Hello Claire,, If you mix a cup or a truck load the ratios are the same. For a 3500 psi compressive load its 1 cement to 2 sand 2gravel....Now to be more accurate ,,If you calculate the cubic feet in a cubic yard there is 27 or 3^3...Now when the ASTM set up the Std ratio they based it on cubic feet. A 94lb bag of portland cement is one cubic foot in volume. It has been determined that a 5 sack per cubic yard mix yields 3000 psi compressive strength. A six sack mix yields a 3500lb compressive strength. so actually for 3000 the ratio is 5:27 and 6:27 for 3500 psi.. so for the 3500psi that's 1 cement to 2 1/4 sand and 2 1/4 gravel. When mixing in small batches. LIke your going to do just use a shovel put in 1 shovel of cement 2 sand and 2 gravel. For masonry mortar there are different amounts and materials . A cubic foot is approx equal to 7 shovels full..15% of the bag will take about 2 shovel fulls..A shovel full is subject to the capacity of the person with the shovel..Any way good luck and have fun..from the E
- Q:I've had braces and had a permanent lower retainer put in. Well the dentist removed it today and never scrapped the cement off of the back of my teeth. Anyone know of a way that I can get it off at home without having to go back to the dentist?
- I wouldnt risk using anything, I think you are just going to have to go back! You dont want to damage your teeth in any way! Especially with a perfect smile now!
- Q:After walking on a cement floor at work, the next day my knees are killing me, any suggestions as to what kind of shoes to buy?
- I worked at a home improvement store for over a year, with a cement floor. I bought some insoles at Walmart...I want to say they were about $8. Pretty sure they were Dr. Scholls, but not sure since it was so long ago. They were made of thick neoprene rubber...and they lasted me over a year that I worked there. I just slipped them into some Adidas shoes that I didn't mind getting dirty, and it saved my legs a lot of the shock that your feet take walking on such a hard floor...so look for these at less than ten bucks, and you can use just a good ol' pair of sneakers you already have! Good luck to you!! 0=)
- Q:how and where can we purchase cement clinker?

- Q:I have a cement statue and the finish has worn off. How can I repair it myself? What product can I use?
- I assume that your stature is outside, but if it's inside that will be even better. I have a cement bird bath with a stature of a lady in the middle that time had worn badly. While not valuable, it came from my wife's mother and she wanted it fixed. I repaired it using motar mix from the building supply store. However the finish was not as good as the original. If your stature is inside and you want a professional finish, you may want to try Bondo or something similar and paint it after repairs. Good luck.
- Q:I have a small concrete slab (12' x 3.5') that I would like to cover with bricks. Should I use mortar or cement to affix them? We live in a cold and wet climate where summer max temp is 90F, winter min is -30F, lots of rain in spring and fall. Not sure if that makes a difference.
- Mortar is a mixture of cement, sand, and lime, and it will work fine. Do yourself a favor and SEAL the pavers about 30 days after the installation. This will help keep water from penetrating, which can make the bricks release from the concrete, or crack from ice. Use the best sealer that a MASONRY SUPPLY place sells. It will hold up much better than anything you can get at Home Cheapo or Lowes.
- Q:I am about to move into a new office and it is all carpet...We are a creative agency and really want that cool loft feel- Anyone know the best way to remove all the carpet ( and the glue ) from the cement and then the best way to stain it to look cool? :) We don't have a huge budget and really hope to be able to do this on our own. Thanks for any help!
- yes isure and want
- Q:how much gravel and sand could be mixed for 1 bag of cement?
- a bag of cement contains one cubic foot of cement...you will need 3 cu. ft. of gravel and 2 cu. ft. of sand per batch...
