- Q:I live alone in a bachelor flat, and I want to buy a couch for my living area.I want a couch that can last for a long time (durable) and a couch that requires little maintenance as far as cleaning it is concerned. So I think a leather couch would be a good couch to buy because leather couches don't require a vacuum cleaners or something if it's dirty, all I can do is to wipe a stain with a damp cloth and that's it. But what worries me with a leather couch is that it becomes damaged easily and can easily rip and have scratches and stuff. Is leather couch the best option? If not, what couch should I buy?Thank you!
- Leather sounds fine. You won't really have to worry about damage that much if you don't have pets or children around. Quality is most important, leather or otherwise. We scrimped and bought a cheap sofa, it has a removable slip-cover that is easy to clean, but we are regretting our cheap purchase. A good quality sofa will age much better. Keep the colour neutral and it will also stand the test of time with any decor changes you might make in the future too.

- It's hard to break old habits in dogs. I guess you should wait until you get a new sofa to start training him because it will smell and look different so he won't feel as confused about you not wanting him up there. Think about it from his perspective and you'll understand. Start by getting him a new, fluffy and cozy bed at the same time you get the new sofa. Throw in an old blanket or worn sweater that smells like you (kind of like the old sofa). Lure him to his bed and when he takes a nap there, give him a treat and praise him. Every time he tries to go up on the sofa, tell him off or no using a stern voice. When he gives up, praise and treat. He might learn quickly. Now if you really do not want him to sleep there when you're not around or when you're asleep, you may have to confine him to certain areas of the house with his new bed, at least until he learns. - Q:I have a 5 month Beagle pup, And have never had a problem with him chewing anything other than socks. I have heard stories of them chewing leather sofas, so every time we go out we shut him in the kitchen as we have a leather one, the only time he's allowed in there on his own is if im quickly going to the shop and am only gone for 5 mins, and have always came home to find him just sat on the sofa waiting for me. Does this mean that i can leave him for longer periods in the living room or is it better to be safe than sorry?

- Q:I would like to recover them but they want $1000 just for the sofa. I could buy a new (junk but new) one for that. I prefer to keep these because I will probably retire next year and we can throw them out at that time. They are now both covered in green vinyl that is cracked in many places. Any ideas?

- Costic sofa? Do you mean caustic soda? It's also known as lye and sodium hydroxide. It's an ingredient in many soaps, so if it's diluted properly it can clean your face. But if not diluted properly, it can quite literally eat your skin away, never mind the upper layer. Unless you find a recipe for what you want to do, I wouldn't touch it. I don't know that chemical peeling of your skin is something that's a DIY thing.

- Q:How do you upholster a sofa, what items are needed, how much fabric should I buy? Or am I better off buying a slipcover, but they never seem to fit right.
- Bring it to my husband. LOL He does this type of work. It is a lot of work. If you've never done it before, I don't recommend attempting it.But you would need the material to start with, A staple gunw/staples, a good sewing machine, you may need to buy new foam if the old is no good also stuffing, it's like a cotton batting, I think that's the word I'm looking for. I think that's about it. Oh and a good pair of sharp scissors. They should have a guide at the fabric store as to how much fabric you need. Good Luck if you attempt it. It is a lot of work. It takes my husband about 2 days to do a sofa if he works staight through. That's like from 8 in the morning to maybe 9-10 at night.
